Just wondering what kind of setups you guys have, especially for your larger photoshop renderings. I know I need more RAM (only 128 MB) in my cpu, but I don't know how much more to buy. I suppose I could always just max it out (756 MB), but I dont know if it's worth it.
What do you think? |

RAM!
Considering 256 meg PC-100 SDRAM DIMMS are only about $21 each online, I'd RAM up. I went from 128 to 512 and noticed lots of improvement.

yes, I would say there is no excuse not to beef up the ram if you're running win2k or XP for things other than programs that use there own memory management. If ram prices are down, then buy if you have it. IF you don't then later when they are back up to 70 and 80 dollars for 128 sdram then you'll kick yourself when you realize that more ram is more better and faster (if your processor is decent too) |

ya, RAM is tastey
I'd buy up and make a portion of your RAM a "RAM drive" and set PS to use it as a scratch disk... very nice speed cause it'll use your ram for History and stuff
ram "r" nice |

RAM... you can never be too rich or have too much RAM...
I'm working with 512 meg and am feeling pinched, so I've put together the cash for my next PC. I'll have 2 gigs of RAM... Ordering next week... OMG!!! I'm actually gonna have to do something with it!!! OMG!!!

i guess 2x256DDR Ram (not expensive)
with bi-AthlonXP 1,xGhz or single
what's your configuration?
you can use RAM DDR with Athlon Tunderbirdz or PIII @1ghz!
to be aware on FSB of your MotherBoard!
the new generation of MB have a fsb @ 266mhz...
bye |

256mo DDR(266mhz) are better than 512mo SDR(100mhz), don't forget it!
you'll not recognize Photoshop with DDR mem!! |

They are only starting to make motherboards that can hold the amount of RAM you need to really make working on print-size images in Photoshop fairly smooth. I have 1GB in mine which is definitely nice, but I could use more. To enjoy the benefits of multiple undos and snapshots you need RAM on top of RAM. Get a SCSI RAID array to load your images from, it makes a huge difference.
As far as I'm concerned they can still keep upping the hardware performance - we're still not quite at the top of the curve. Apple had better make a serious increase in memory capacity in their machines before I buy mine! What's this 1.5GB crap!? |

I'm running a dual AMD-1400 with 1GB RAM. I haven't maxed it out with Photoshop, although I have with Lightwave(actually just a single character model I have uses that much...ugh). Get all you can afford. |

2 gigs of RAM with the Dell Dimension 8200 series and a 2.0 GHz Pentium 4 Processor... Anyone have any experience with that machine. I'm getting ready to order one in about a week for delivery early in January. But I gotta say, I'm a bit nervous... My last Dell was supposed to work with 750 megs of RAM, but never actually worked with more than 512 megs of RAM... so, will the 8200 really support 2 gig of RAM?
