hi,
should i read the theory of colours of goethe to understand colour/light/shadow/value more?
...or it is more recommendable to read other once or study all this by my self?

i've never read it because i think Goethe never actually painted anything, did he? But reading it definetly won't hurt. But its no replacement (vocabulary?) for self-study. You can't do anything wrong with studying the masters and your favs. |

Goethe was a poet foremost and view color theory much from that POV. If you want to learn correct color theory, you should turn to other excellent literature. However I agree with morphgfx that it wont hurt reading it, it's a classic and a part of history. However it could hurt if you take Goethes words as to be physically correct. Therefor, If you decide to read it, make sure it is commented. |

www.wetcanvas.com has an article on color theory that seems to be worth a look, hadn't much time lately to read it myself though.
other than that i'd listen to these guys and study on your own and from other painters, that's what i'm doing anyhow. |
