I've been a 3d real-time computer game artist for around nine years and trying to focus on my traditional skills in the past year. I've worked on some well known games such as Deus Ex and Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear.
I live in San Diego, but I've been in Orlando for the last 6 weeks consulting with a defense contractor on modifying games like Rogue Spear and Operation Flashpoint for training purposes for the Marines. My contract's almost up and I'm pretty homesick, so if anyone knows of any opportunites in the San Diego/SoCal area, let me know. I'm pretty homesick... |

I did a lot of art for Rampage Through Time (PSX), modeled and textured a bunch of college football stadiums for NCAA 2K2 (Dreamcast), and did level design, concepts, and textures for a playable in-house game proposal we made using the Unreal engine.
I prefer broadcast/feature work to games though . . . the game industry is just too bloated, corporate, and French right now. |

Wotcha! I've just posted a link in the gallery...a few good artists in there.
I work as a 'concept/storyboard artist' for the company that produces 'Driver', and soon to be released 'Stuntman'.
I work in comics in my spare time.
Best Regards
Paul |

Hi Folks...
I've been lurking for a while. I worked for Midway Games for a little while and now I'm the lead designer for a company that develops casino games for VLT's and internet based gaming. Please don't hate me for taking your money... I promise I'm not the devil ;-)

Hi All, my first post (Hurrah!)
I'm working for ATD, on games which people prefer not to buy Modelling, texturing, design work (game design and graphic design) characters whenever I get the chance.
One or two of my high poly images can be seen at http://communities.msn.co.uk/3DArtworks
if anyone's interested. I hope to get some more interesting stuff up (and a proper web site) soon... |

wishful thinking...sometimes it comes to fruition..other times it is just fantasy.
fallout is like the girl in school who occupies ones thoughts when he should be doing other things...right now we think about her a lot...but havent had the guts to ask her out.

Im a lazy student but if all goes well I too will join the select (few?) producing high quality games! Me and my friends tried once but we lack the willpower too actually produce something that even resembles a game |

I've been in the computer game development industry for going on seven years now. I am currently working at Sunstorm Interactive. I am forced to use 3DS Max on a daily basis for limited poly assets. My all time favorite 3D package for doing anything from modeling, detailing and animation is by far Hash Inc's "Animation Master". It is an inspiring tool. I also love Photoshop for 2D work. I have done six book covers just this year for the emerging d20 role playing subsection of paper based gaming. Frankly I enjoy the digital paintings for the covers far more than being a pixel monkey at my day job. (Not that I'm complaining mind you |

far out no wonder I am afraid to post anything here!!
I do not work as a 2d/3d artist although this is the area that I want to get into.
How did you guys get yourself into this area what courses did you all do? I really want to know so I can maybe take the course...
Oh and I hope that you all were not excellent straight of the mark! |

hmm, you don't need any courses to be an artist. Just look to get involved with game editing so you have something to show off. |

I started with no artistic qualifications, am a self taught "artist" and modeller.
The first company I worked for was a shareware developer, essentially working unpaid for a project (I was quite desperate to get in the industry back then )
After a year or so I got a break in the industry proper. So it is possible to get it together without any formal art qualifications but I couldn't really recommend it - you won't be doing yourself any favours.
Traditional courses are best - Fine arts, life drawing, animation etc.
3D courses if you think they are necessary, but if you feel confident you can teach yourself 3D then the lack of a qualification won't really hinder you - it's all down to your portfolio at the end of the day. |
