1. I might be separated from my active military duty and go guard in 2003, and I will be 27. Isn't it too old to start all over again? By that time all I would be able to draw is stick figure... Is 2 years enough to rebuild and improve my drawing/painting skill?
2. Is Associates in Art eligible for GI bill? How about Watts Atelier?
3. Does Associates in Art offer enough training to catch up with the people in my own age...? I know that it's a very stupid question but I really want to catch up with the people who never stopped drawing, just to be free from the humiliation I got from Art Center College of Design.
4. Is it worth driving down to Watts Atelier from LA?
5. How can I be so sure if I can find jobs at the time of my graduation from a state university? I plan to go to CSU Long Beach or CSU Fullerton, and I want to go to one that has both solid anatomy class and entertainment design course.
6. Is the age 29 too late to jump into commercial art field? That's the likely age I graduate from a 4-year university. Now I am 25.
7. Knowing my disturbing history, WILL ART CENTER ALUMNUS BLOCK ME FROM WORKING FOR BIGGER STUDIOS? Since many know about my violent incident back in 1999, will Art Center alumnus think "That's the crazy psycho who terrified the campus back in 1999. I can't let him work with me." and boycott me from working with them? |

of course not. seems like you have a beef with artcenter but if you look in their catalog the average age for freshman is 24 or 25.

hehe, what's that about?
Being suspended in 1999, got a restraining order in 2000, and officially expelled in 2001.

1. Saying something to the effect that I would blow up the whole freaking campus.
2. Totally unintentional rape and murder threat on some female.
Why not go ask Kit Baron? |

No... I plan to go back to So Cal, and I can only pay for a state university. Private art institutes with thousands of dollars of tuition is out of question. |

hehe shinji, i looked over some your previous posts.
seems like you really got a bone to pick with like, everything.
no offense but i think you should chill out a bit, really think about what you want and what you are doing and stuff. look for guidance through yourself, instead of posting about the same topics about school and jobs and whatnot.
i swear to god i'm not trying to be a jackass here. i just get the impression that you are going through this with a whole lot of baggage and inner ... stuff...
regards. |

Then...uhm... what about portfolio requirements and looking for a job opening?
Say...if I look for an illustrators' agency, what do they look for? What about working for video game studio? Concept design and sketch is my strong point. (figure drawing is the second.) |

Hi, I'm new to the board.
AiA is pretty good, i used to go there years ago, anyway can you draw?
If you can draw, you need to sketch all the time, draw people places animals and stuff from you imagination in a sketchbook that should be nailed to your hand beacuse you need to have it with you at all times, and life draw as often as you can.
Draw every spare moment you have.
If you can't draw, don't even worry about a portfolio.
My guess is your work must be ok becuase you did go to AC for alittle bit.
I could never afford a privite art school mysellf.
So I went a diffrent route.
I was mentored by people that helped me learn how to draw and helped me learn about art in general.
Goto this website. www.vilppu.com
Take Glen's classes, he's the best, it's a good starting point.
50% of all my art knowlegde came from him, he's very good and a nice guy, but he's deaf (no joke).
The important thing is to learn how to draw first, then pratice over and over again.
When you've got that down, then you can think about portfolios for a job.
Don't just think hey I gotta get a job as fast as I can, I did, then I got burned out.
Take it easy, take your time, and learn because you want to learn, not because you want a certain job. (I wish I did)
If your goal is just to work, it's not a good one, you may find yourself unfulfilled in the end when you do get the job.
A portfolio for animation or gaming should have life drawings and your own art, along with a full sketch book and a video tape with your films and tests etc.
Illustration is mostly your own work, what can you do finished peices wise.
Then when you've got that done you take your portfolio studios and agencys and apply.
Then cross your fingers that they pick your stuff.
That's about it.
I hope this helps you some.
BTW you need to have a cool head to have a job in the industry, outbursts and badly taken remarks can destroy your career.
Anyway, theirs enuff uptight chain smoking caffine addict drunks in the art industry, you don't need to add to the tension.
Also it's nice that you told us what you did, your being honest.
But let it be the last time, Entertainment
is an evil backstabing field, becareful of what you tell people about your self from now on ok?
And don't get into confrentations with people, no one wins in the end and you will be happy knowing you were the better person for not dropping yourself to someone elses anti-social level.
Besides you never know who could end you being your boss some day.
If someone thinks something is black when you know it's white, just tell them ok that's nice.
Good luck to you. |

Hahaha. Peter whats up man. I think everyone at one time or another including the students and faculty have not liked Art Center for one reason or another but threatning to blow up the school is pretty damn serious. It sounds to me like 'c' hit it right on the nail about you holding mental baggage. I don't think any art center alumnis are going to have any grudge against you though. I know I wouldn't but acting like that does beg to question your mental stability if you tell people about it. Just start looking for a job and pretend it never happened, one day you'll look back on that day and laugh it off. Maybe you'll even end up teaching there in the near future in an ironic twist of fate. Later man. |
