what the hell is up with that? Little thin layers of plastic are chipping off of the see-through layer thingy and is causing it to have grooves. So I'll be sliding my pen across the surface and hit bumps. Anyone else ever have this problem and have an idea how to fix it? |

That happened to my old wacom artz 6x8. I just taped a piece of thin translucent marker paper over the whole area. Worked fine for me. Actually liked the surface "drag" better too. That's a quick solution which helped the "bump" and "groove" problem.(I'm too cheap to try to order a replacement surface from wacom.)
I've since upgraded to an intuos pad and haven't had the problem... yet. |

heh... this is sad... I just realized that I don't have an intuos.. I have an ArtZ. Now I am about to ask a really newbie-ish question. Is the intuos better than an Artz? |

The Intous is NOT better than the ArtZ II!!!
It has a better/fatter more ergonomic pen.
But thats a matter of preference.
You can also get extra pointing devices such as a wheel-ajustable airbrush and whatnot.
But when it comes to normal everyday use there really isn't any difference.
It has more preassure levels so if your wrist can handle 1024 levels instead of 512 or something like that go ahead
The Intuos also comes as a USB variant for those with new mobo's without serial connectors.
I have an ArtZ II and I feel no improvements when using an Intuos of the same size.
No speed/reaction improvements or anything like that!

I ordered a new Intuos 6x8. I'm giving the ArtZ to my dad. |

Same things happened to mine... now it's a big scratchy mess. I guess it was time I upgraded my 4x5 anyway. But they do sell those spare surfaces... I bet they're pretty expensive. |
