Go to www.pricewatch.com and see if anyone is offering a Wacom for cheaper. This is the best site to compare prices. You can also go to the "less than new" section and see if there are any refurbished Wacoms there. I bought a refurbished Graphire for only $49.00 and it works perfectly. |

Well prices are good right now... 12x12 and 9x12 cost $300 refurbrished. Isn't a 12x12 a little extreme? I orginally planed on getting a 6x8 because that's what most people recommended, but maybe a 9x12 would be nice. Is the reason most of you like 6x8 is because it's samller size so you can move it around when you draw or something. I plan on using if for computer graphics within Photoshop and some 3d stuff with Maya.
What do you all think?
Is the only bad thing about the larger size is that it takes up too much space??
please respond soon.. thanx in advance.

Well, all the working this summer left me enough to finely buy one. I saw from a previous post that shopharmony.com has one for $257, does anybody know any place cheaper.
Just doublechecking... money's tight around here.
Thanx in advance

Well, if you wanna buy a new one get one direct from wacom. Or if you wanna get a good used and a bit cheaper one look around ebay. They $275 one your talking about I am guessing is the 6x8. Depends on what size you want also. |

They won't take your money or sell you something that doesn't work. Read my previous post! I said I bought one from there and I am pleased with it. It works perfectly. Also the WacomDirect site IS WACOM's SITE! Do you really thing Wacom would rip you off?!? |

Yea i wanna buy a refurbish tablet from WacomDirect but their sold out of 6x8 USB Intuos. I wonder how long it it'll take them to restock? But i get one from shopharmony cause they do have that black special edition one, but it would cost about $25 dollars more than a refurbish one.
mm...
pcstop cost a little more than shopharmony.
think i'll go with shopharmony.
thanx everybody
p.s. sorry about that price thing with Maya dan... it had been a looong day. |

Kit, I have some good news.
I just purchased a 12x12 Intuos (factory referbished) for $229. Refurbs are guaranteed "good as new". IIRC Wacom even sells Refurbed Tablets. The Refurbished 12x12 goes for USD$299. If you order new from Wacom, they want USD$429 for the same 12x12 tablet.
I lost in an auction yesrterday at ebay that had a Wacom ArtPadzII 12x12 go for 162.50.
You may certainly not want one of these gigantor tablets but this example should apply to any size Wacom you decide to get.
Here are some links to aid you:
ebay Search for "Wacom" click here

Harmony Computer's Selection of Tablets (where I purchased my 12x12) click here
Take care, I hope that I helped,

Try a Sam's (if you have one around where you live).
Off the subject of pricing Wacoms... Is anyone having trouble with their pen and Photoshop 6? I seem to have a prob with changing brush size and it changes colour as well. Anyone figure out how to fix this? |

Why would you have to move your arm more? Just because you have more space to draw doesn't mean you have to use it, right? You can draw in a 6x8 region (on a 9x12 tablet)just like you would on a 6x8 tablet. So what would be bad about haveing a larger size.
Please show me what I'm missing. |

I've never actually used one (a 9x12 or 12x12 tablet), but I know people that use them daily and that's what they've complained about. Seems silly to have a 12x12 tablet and then only use part of it, though. Maybe it has more to do with your monitor/resolution size. I don't know, I'm just speculating now.
If you were to enlarge your image to fill your screen, wouldn't you have to use the entire tablet to work from one corner of the image to another?

why would it matter to people, do they like to work from one edge to the other. I wouldn't think a larger screen would bother anyone if they didn't move the tablet around anyway. |

Sorry, dude. I guess I'm not being very clear.
I don't know what else to tell you, though, except maybe try a couple different tablets if you get a chance and see which one you like. Good luck! |

Most complaints about the larger tablets that I've heard are that you have to move your arm too much when working for a long enough period of time. Repetetive stress syndrome? I know for me, the 6x8 tablet is perfect for comfortable drawing. Maybe the larger tablets are better for extreme precision-type stuff, but I always figured that's what zooming in was for.
Just stay far away from the graphire tablets. Those things are only good for destroying artist's wrists! |

Well I'm a hour or two from the nearest wacom dealer, and i don't know anyone near me who might have one.
Has anybody else tried both the larger sizes (9x12) and the 6x8? Maybe you can give me your thoughts, why you like or dislike one over the other.
thanx |

I use a 12x12 at home and a 4x5 at work. I prefer the 12x12, because I was always taught to draw with my arm instead of my wrist.
I bought it from a guy who drew with the muscles in his fingers . . . he used an active area that was literally the size of a post-it note. I use the full 12x12 surface.
If you've done a lot of large-format work in traditional media, or just want to avoid stressing your wrist, I'd suggest a big one. If you mostly draw with your hand and not your arm, a small one is probably all you need.
I've never experienced the "Wacom elbow" that some users of big tablets complain about, but I have had my fingers go numb from painting with a mouse . . . thus, given a choice, I'd rather put stress on my elbow and shoulder than my wrist.
edit: typos
