Photoshop 6 is hands down the best software of those three. Come on, it's the industry standerd for everything from illustration to photo-manipulation. I can't think of any other software on the market that can offer as many options or as much variety to illustrators, painters and graphic designers alike.

But that's just me. :b
Take it easy,

Hey, good job! Showing mind-blowing work by two incredible artist who uses different packages is a great way to demonstrate that it's the artist, not the software.

i agree with all who say that these programs are uncomparable and have to be used combined and not against each other.

for "normal" artwork i prefer photoshop because i'm used to it (using version 6.0).
for some things i use painter because it fits my taste better for some special tasks. to go further: i have installed an oem version of corel graphics (draw & paint) because i sometimes have the need of vector graphics or the filters of corel photopaint. (radial blur is one of my favourites in corel photopaint, it just blows photoshop's one away).
for having more variety when using vector graphics (very useful to make a basic layout for very abstract and plane-dominated things) i also have installed macromedia freehand.

the only thing i didn't test yet is paint shop pro... but if i find one or two positive aspects on it, i'll have it too...

use everything for how it works best, thats my rule of thumb when using software.

the idea of posting two urls is really great and shows really, that there isn't a better program, they're just different.
i like to skin for quake 3. in the community, there are 2 guys who make amazing artwork. the one is dark horizon who paints everything in one layer because his "roots" so to say lie in the practical painting and drawing. on the other hand, there's harlequin, who is the master of layers. he makes color layers, grayscale layers, this layers and that layers... the result is fucking great, no matter who of these two made it and which technique was used...
same problem...

the only iomportant thing is, that you use the right prog for you...

Well I never tried paint before. But there is already a beta of Photoshop 7 or 6.5 running around, so late this year or early next it should drop. As for no control z in photoshop, try control alt z, thats the real one for the program.

Oh, man, I tought I was they only one on this forum using Paint Shop Pro, but it seems like Im not alone. Ive been using it since I got the shareware version of PSP 3 on a cd that came with a computer magazine a couple of years ago. PSP fits all my needs, pixeling, drawing and designing stuff. I use PSP 7 for the moment.
Ive been trying the GIMP a little bit to, and that is a nice program, but its irritating that mousebutton2 pops up a meny all the time.

So i guess the bottom line is this: Use what works? heh i dunno.

I have a question about the software packages, but my big question is how is the prebundled software that comes with the Wacom stuff? Is that stuff any good?

Photo-Paint is a good mid-ground between Photoshop and Painter. Its brush-blending and texture stuff is better than Adobe, and it handles layers better than Painter. If you can only afford one app, give Photo-Paint a look.

Don't be misled by the Corel bashers, Photo-Paint is slick as snot.

I prefer Painter due to it's ease of use, and natural 'painterly' feel.

Either that, or PS 4. Little resource usage, and I get all the functions I need that any version above has to offer.

hey, im new here too, but a couple comments

i am completely with roadmaster and hamilton

PAINT SHOP PRO RULEZ. My life would be hell without retouch. It actually allows me to paint as if it was a canvas, instead of using multiply, screens, layers, masks, etc. etc. etc.

Now, im trying to learn those, cause i wont surivive, so i use Photoshop, but ONLY for cleaning up and render effects. Basically, all my work is done in PSP.

And a mouse, so there :P
what can i say? im in this field to do the art work, not make snazzy highlights, and apply readymade textures. let the liquidclones do that.

Roadmaster and hamilton, please send me an email [email protected], because im REALLY interested in what youve done, and you could maybe help me a bit too. ThanX

( art is not in the glitz and the glamour, but in the heart and the soul) (i made that up)
