PII 400
192mb
4.2Gig HD
GeForce 2
32x cd rom
8x4x32 CD-R
USB Zip Drive
Scanjet Scanner
21" Sony monitor about 7 years old but it works.
and okay laugh at me now an inexpensive 8x4 drawing tablet that I found at CompUSA for about 70 bucks after a mail in rebate (named Pablo, lol). Couldn't afford the Wacom at the time, and hey it works pretty good for the time being.

Here's my out-dated system, but still good for what I use it for:

Dual PII 350MHz CPUs
Supermicro P6DBU mobo
256MB RAM
9.1 U2W SCSI HDD
32x SCSI CD-Rom
IDE 6x4x32 CD-RW (It was only $55!)
3D Labs Oxygen 202 16MB SDRAM
1 GB SCSI Jaz drive
19" Hitachi SuperScan
Artec Scanner
Canon BJC5100 Inkjet Printer

What's a Mac? j/k Actually, the ratio of 3D and graphics apps ported to PC vs. Mac is embarrasing. I'm majoring in computer animation and we have ONE Mac lab. The rest of the computer labs are NT boxes. I don't "hate" Macs, I just never need to use one. But I gotta say, the new G4 Powerbooks are sa-weeet!

17" MAG

Athlon 500 overclocked to 800
256MB RAM
30 or so gigs of HD
Wacom 6x8
SGI 1600SW monitor (cost more than the rest of my setup combined, but my eyes are happy)
GeForce 256 DDR
Sound Blaster Live Value
HP CD-RW, Asus DVD-ROM
Epson something-or-other scanner
Windows 2000

Other than RAM and video card, I'll probably stick with this setup for a long while yet.

Liquid nitrogen cooling system (in layman's terms, its an esky with ice in it!)

Question....
Some of you guys have insanely powerful systems. Well, to me they are anyway.

I've just decided to upgrade 128megs of ram with another 256. So that will make 384 megs. Now that is a huge amount to me, but some of you guys just casually say "512" or "768" as if it's a standard thing. With that much ram you must have no slowdowns in photoshop at all? Am I right? I'm just really paranoid that even after installing another 256 megs of ram, photoshop will still run slow considering the large amounts everyone else has.

oh and my computer is a:
P3 600
128 sdram
8 gig HD
32 meg tnt 2 m64
15 inch monitor
8x dvd

wootkoos, how is the performance of the Geforce 3 card? im very tempted at including it in my new computer i will be ordering in a couple weeks...hopefully :-) thanks for any info....

It's a good card seeing that we blasted it with in house tests here at work and it preformed very well! If it's in your budget then nab it, that or wait until the prices drop a little.

Actually I ran a dual celeron 500 machine for a while, it did really good in photoshop, cuz photoshop has good SMP code.

So if you looking for a cheap upgrade you can pick up a set of cheap celerons and a Abit BP6 board. 3D Studio Max also has SMP support. Not a bad setup... My next system is gonna be a dual AMD, soon as the boards stop costing $800...

I have a friend whose mom does the booking or something for some Photo-Editing Company. he was telling me about thier machines. I hate them heh. I think that anyone who has over a gig of ram sucks heh. NO one should have more than 10 times of anything of mine!

Also another thing. I had the impression that a really large amount of Artists were Mac users. Is that not true? Or is it just a larger amount than the general populous than normal.

well since im more of a graphic design guru than an illustrator or animator, i was under the impression at least in my field that it is predominatly Macintosh which i cant stand....Animation generally PC based....but honestly...for me i guess i just prefer using a PC right now...whenever i move out of my cardboard box, ill purchase a couple workstations both mac an pc...of course this could all change within a few years seeing as how the computer industry is ALWAYS RAPIDLY CHANGING...hehe...thats what sucks about it...ah well...back to drawing

Well its not a computer, but i just ordered my first Tablet! A Refurbished USB 6x8 Wacom Intuos! Wahoo! Next stop, more ram!

Is it just me, or does it seem like 98% of the merchandise on Ebay hot (stolen!). I just saw someone auctioning a sweet-ass comp (worth like $1200) for $100. To many good deals to be true?

As for nice prices, i would check www.pricewatch.com for good deals.

Sorry for the blurry pic, i couldn't see the screen to focus the cam. Also sorry for the late reply, been on holiday for the past week. The setup conties around to the right with my tablet, scanner and printer (but didn't think you wanted to see those)

**EDIT** Tossed in the pic of the tablet as well for you viewing pleasure

LG 12x CDR
Creative DVD player (old, when I bought it the only place I could find dvd's was suncoast video)
SB Live value
Geforce 2 GTS 64mb
2 network cards

Also a Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000. Ignore the image called stolen.jpg, I just wanted a reminder of the jackass that was linking to stuff on my server
