I don't think a degree matters when you're going into Sheridan, the best art college in Canada. |

Their website is like a maze and looks a bit forboding
I checked out the International section and under Illustration it said postgraduate studies. I ain't sure what the requirements are for that but I read in a previous post that it means I have to have a degree. I maybe misunderstanding things and hopefully I am.
I am just trying to find out what I need to get in there and how much it will cost me. What I've read about the school looks promising, but there are some vague points I am trying to figure out. Sent them an E-mail but they just replied "Check our website at www...." so I figured I should ask here. |

You can ask them to send you a packet with information for international students, I believe you can ask for one on their site.
Also I think Socar (MYLES) goes there so she might be able to help you out. |

Sorry, no--I go to Emily Carr. (Close, but no cigar)...so I know nothing about Sheridan except that it has a good reputation. |

thanks
Another thing I am wondering about. Most school in the US like Savannah and ACCD have a four year bachelor course but Sheridan seems only three years. Is it as valid as the other school or...?
Socar Myles: does Emily Carr have a website? |

type of school is important, but not THAT important. even if you go to the best school, a lot of yr teachers will still be knuckle heads. so pick something decent, don't spend too much money....ultimately, it's up to you to teach yrself. besides, school sux. |

Yep: http://www.eciad.bc.ca ...It's got one of the most ridiculous and confusing navigation systems on the Web, but I think they've got one of the graphic design STUDENTS putting it together, so one can't be too hard on it. |

Better to go to the states than go to the school here. It sucks basicly, it teaches only Fine art and the things I have seen from people graduating there is sad. One graduation project was that the artist would sing some made up concert for a week, others threw a black ink splat on a paper and so forth. Not the kind of school I would want to go to.

Hey i got into sheridan for this fall WOOOHOO.. i talking a first year general course and a 3 year illustration or animation.. which i dont know yet soo i have a year to decide what i want to major in hehe... I have too tell you sheridan college is HARD to get into. THey get over 5000 application if not more a year in the animation program alone and they choose only 100-200 im not sure.. same for the illustration program.
Dont compare Canada schools to United States they dont work the same. So yes a 3 year degree is just as good as a 4 year diploma in the states...
About the international students well i dont know about Sheridan though. But i must say where i live ( ottawa) the universities here will chose international students before they do canadians for the simple reason because they will have to poay twice as much. I know this because a student from moraco is renting a room at my house and she tells us how much she told us the going price and that is for ANY program...
Mayvbe Sheridan is different or maybe the same. I really couldnt tell you .. Besiddes school in Canada is WAY cheaper than the states... Residence+books + tuition for a year in canada is cheaper than just tuition in the states... that is at a Art school like savannah or accad or whatever... Even if you double the price of what canadians pay a year for everything its still cheaper than simple tuition in the states... Not to mention the currency conversion..
For me a year of school in canada with everything ( books, room, food, extra supplies, tuition ect.. ) will cost me around 8000$ canadian.. Which would be like 5000$ american or soo... That is for sheridan.
And for like acad isnt it like 10 000$ US a semestre JUST for for tuitions.which is like 17000$ or so canadian.... soo anyways all this to say Which ever you choose to go States or Canada ( either have great art schools) your going to pay A hell of alot more in the states... |

well lets just say you go to that school.. It not necessairaly that school that is making them do what they are doing.. Its also the fact that they like what their doing. You could go to that school and do something else that pleases you in the fine arts course.... I mean juist going to a school that has a reputation will absolutly not make you a good artist in any way... Only you can make your self bettre by practicing.. the school you go to doesnt matter UNLESSS a specific school has a specific course that isnt offered anywhere else...
Anyways i got no more time for typing .. gotta go to work... Its 4 am now lol.... |
