Fellow Sijun brothers and sisters, I'm in deep shit.

I just found out my new job is about to turn into ashes. We got shafted by Infogrames, and they've done such an excellent job at raping us that we cannot recover financially.

For all of you out there, if you know any 2D art positions need filling, please help a brother out. There will be no more paychecks as of today.

Of course, I'm doing the usual gamasutra/gamejobs shuffle, but I'm posting this just in case you guys know something.

I will relocate for a full-time position.

I do mostly:

texture art
concept art
interface
illustrations
storyboards

I have a very strong traditional art background(was in illustration and comics for 8 years). I'm not much of a 3D person. The most I do in it is apply textures to levels in MAX, vertex lighting, lighting, and some basic modeling.

How much you gonna pay? I won't accept doggie treats or cat food as payment, but I would accept used CD's, LD's, DVD's, and comic books.

*sigh* I'm really not in the mood for jokes. Sorry. . .. There's nothing funny about the immediate danger of sleeping on the street in a week.

Hmmm....

What's Finland like? I'm open to the idea of another country if it's a pretty cool place, and my work visa won't be next to impossible to attain.

Oh man, you'd tempt me right back to smoking again though(you always got a ciggarette dangling in your mouth in pictures)... and I've been clean for a while... I have no will power to fight the temptation. . ..

I can just picture it:

Jussi: Hey man, let's take a cigarette break.
Me: Nah, I quit.
Jussi: C'mon, you big wussy. It aint gonna kill you....yet.
Me: Fuck. Ok, let's go. You got Camels?

black_fish- What are you hiring for? I'm open to any location, as long as it's not too dangerous to my livelyhood. The worst in SoCal is drive-by shootings and LAPD. . .. Oh wait. . ..

Tell me more, or email me.

We're looking for people who can are polyvalent and can do at least 2 things, like modelling and animating, or modelling and texturing, or concept and modelling. We could use a 2D artist but he would have to be really technical I guess. We're not really looking for concept since we already have different people doing concept (including me). If you're interested check the website: www.liquid.to You can email or mail resume+samples from there.

BTW we are in one of the safest cities in the US, and not in LA (so no LAPD - what a shame)....Stereotypes...

Lunatique: Don't you have any savings that can help you to stay afloat until you find a new job?

And how did Infogrames screw you?

This is the reason why i take Computer Science instead of art at the first place. Lunatique, try to learn webdesign, its really not that hard at all and they pay you good.

Hey man, sorry to hear about the job.
I lost mine 3 months ago and haven't been able to find anything, so I know exactly how you must feel.
Make sure you don't move to Texas, the market here sucks. Lukily I've been doing a contract job, but that is coming to an end.
What school did you graduate from? Art schools are ussually pretty good about helping their alumni find jobs.
Best of luck.

For all the game artists out there, if your company gets bought by the frenchies (Infogrames), you'll want to start freshening up your resume and getting your portfolio in order, as your days are likely numbered.

I've lost so many talented friends to that beast . . . I had a mate at Humongous who ended up swearing off the game industry completely after what Infogrames did to that company.

Hey, sorry to hear about that Lunatique.

Try http://www.gamejobs.com/ as they tend to have an above-average selection of jobs on the go.

Dunno if it's like the UK, but can't you sign onto the dole for a bit?

Thanks for all your help. I've been sending out resume non-stop, and I have my previous headhunter working on a solution too.

I'm afraid my 3D skills are quite elementary. I'm mostly a traditional artist with about 3 years in games doing textures, concept art, interface...etc.

As for web design, my own website is the result of me recently giving myself a crash course in Dreamweaver4, so I'm definitely not some html/java/flash/shockwave guru.

I guess I'm not really the "technical" artist. Don't know if I'll ever be.

Anyways, I'm trying. Thanks for the support.
