I know that the application Poser, formerly by Metacreations (home of the "make art" button) and now squandered by Curious Labs, is not held in high regard on this forum. I agree that too many people get programs like Poser and Bryce and suddenly feel that they are ARTISTS. I have worked and studied too long in this field to get warm fuzzies everytime an untrained computer user delivers their latest creation. However, I try not to discount any graphics application, so I use Poser when I can as a tool to create digital art. That's just my nature; I even find uses for my 10 year old copy of SuperPaint. However, I digress.
I am currently working on a texture(skin)for use with Poser. It's a hand-drawn (with Photoshop) texture for one of the new Zygote figures. When I see the ridiculous amounts of money people are shelling out for poor-quality textures, I can't ignore the possibilities of making a few bucks by producing something of a slightly higher quality than what is currently flooding the market.
Since I've seen people post their WIP pictures of video game skins and other 3D textures, I assume it would be appropriate for me to post the preliminary renders of my texture to the WIP forum?
Am I correct in this assumption, or will I get to use my new asbestos long-johns?

You may get asbestos longjohns, but it'll have nothing to do with your texture(unless your model's wearing asbestos longjohns). Post away! |

So basically you want to make money off the poor people who use Poser and think they are artists? Is that right?
Hahahaha |

Black_fish: That's the gist of it. I feel like I'd be doing them a favor. Why let them waste their money on bad stuff, when they can waste their money on good stuff. (At least, I think it's good stuff.) Honestly, I've bought a couple of things from Zygote, and they have an excellent scam going. Their models are pretty average (though better than I could produce with my amount of free time) and their textures, which they charge big bucks for, are substandard. Most of them are stretched out photographic montages which have shadows in strange places. Don't ask.
I'll admit, I've made my own fair share of bad Poser art, but newspaper is a very forgiving medium; especially the 60 year old, 85 lpi letterpresses we use.
I'll go ahead and post the texture renders. Hell, I haven't been the target of a flame war in years. It'll be fun.
