I recieved this lovely tidbit in my guestbook today:

Comments:
Not only are you a shitty artist but a shitty person as well, and that?s an extreme low considering the state of human affairs. It shows in your arrogance towards others and in your blatant plagiarism of others style. The idea that there is a special hell for an enema bag such as yourself is a comforting one. If you could pry yourself away from beating off to your he-bitch sketches you?d maybe want to take a long look at yourself and wish your were half the man your "women" are.
-- Someone want to tell me who others style that I'm plagerizing? Apparently this guy sees something I don't. :P |

eh, i always liked your paintings... everyone is entitled to his own opinion.. whatever that may be in his mind.. I disagree with him though... You seem to be pretty unique, as all artists are to me...
lets see... this is what your not :-) plagiarism n 1: a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work 2: the act of plagiarizing; taking someone's words or ideas as if they were your own |

take it with a grain of salt ...
if that idiot would meet you in person he certainly wouldn't tell you something like that ... the internet makes some people into bastards - look at me
Your stuff is great, do your thing and f*ck all the big mouths out there, that can't even draw a straight line but open their pieholes at any given opportunity to say something bad about anything ...
Have a good one

Thanks guys. (=\ It just gets kind of discouraging sometimes; I have people say I rip off Nagel with the high-contrast line-art I do (which I actually started *before* I saw any of Nagels pieces)...I have people say I rip my comic strip off of "Little Orphan Annie" (for the sole reason that they had oval eyes)... Argh... Oh well... I just have to remember not to let it get to me. : |

Vis... pretty much everyone's style can be compared to someone elses. It's impossible to get away from. Definitely don't let it get to you, your artwork is beautiful and unique.

Never mind that moron, Visigoth. Your style is very much your own - very unique.
Of course, nothing is ever new under the sun, or so I've been told. So no style is "truly" unique... even so, yours is as unique as they come.
*heheh* And Sumaleth, I got that one. |

The thing is, everyone who is an artist is observant to some degree, and it is well-known that all artists 'appropriate' or become inspired by things. Those things might be nature, people, or someone's art.
Being inspired is good, that is why we are all here, partially, and it is not like you are taking someone else's work and passing it off as your own right?
I am definitely inspired by other artists, some of them are even here in this forum, and I am sure I have inspired the odd artist or three...we are all bouncing off each other and if it inspires, that is a good thing. There is definitely a difference between inspiration, appropriation, which is ok, and outright plagiurism, which is not.
I would be hard pressed to accuse someone of plagiurism...that would be the lifting of an intact piece and pawning it off as your own...for instance, if I took a sketch by Spiney or Francis and painted it, calling it my own..well that is plagiurism. If I painted their pieces but gave them proper credit, that is collaborative and still honorable..and if I am inspired by some crazy sketch, and do one of my own from scratch with a twist, that is inspiration, appropriation and perhaps, innovation, which is not only ok, but should be encouraged.
It is important to me to have my own style, and I think it is natural unless you really work hard to copy the style of another...so being inspired is good..keep doing it.

Well, um, you are.
You are a plagerizing bastard.
That thing you do. Y'know, with the pencil and the making of marks on the paper? Well, that was my idea. And the whole Photoshop thing, well, that was mine too. And I invented the internet, so get the hell off before I get the cops to bust you up for trespassing. And another thing, quit being so damn original. It's making me look like a real ass. Me and my stick figures don't hold a candle to your magnificent works of art. So stop it right this instant, all of you. Damn hippies.
(And yes, I am just kidding. Well, except for the compliments. I meant those =D Plagerizers suck. But you don't. ) |

Hey, Al Gore invented the Internet, <ahem>, The Information Superhighway.
However, since Al Gore is clearly made of wood, we know that Gepetto carved and created Al Gore. T
We can therefore conclude that Gepetto, father of Pinocchio, indirectly invented the Internet.
