he??????/ If i wass you: i did buy books about it in a bookstore. Because the internet is not so good in that.And... about max: I like that programme but the real 3D artists are using Maya2,softimage ore other programmes to make 3d models.

Hmmm, they did a lil survey over at www.render.ru (I think those guys can be considered real 3d artists) and 3D Studio came out top as the choice application with 60% and Maya was struggling for 15%. But what do they know? I mean look at the galleries there pfffft. |

3D Studio MAX is the most used 3d program and it's a great program to start with. Maya and Softimage on the other hand can do other stuff and better renders but the learning curve is MUCH steeper...
And if you're looking for a job the employers don't look at which program you use (unless it's like Bryce or Poser *lol*), it's more your skill which is important... |

maybe so. but many people using softimage or maya as their first software end up making art that looks like doggie poo.
using more complex software does not mean your art will be better. |

According to a review in Computer Arts, Maya is a great modelling package but isn't so good in the rendering area. |

I always looked at it as Max was the way to go for games (considering it owns that market pretty much), and then film effects generally use Maya and render with Soft, RenderMan..etc
A good free program is Nendo and if you want to buy it, it is something like $99..so even a student can afford it.
Theres also the Lightwave people, the Nichimen people and err..yeah..poser and bryce for those just starting out in 3d ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Even if you're just starting out in 3d, PLEASE don't consider bryce and poser as an alternative...it'll make you lazy and you won't really learn anything...it's almost like having a make "art" button (notice the quotation marks).... |

it's preference, i prefer 3d max over any other 3d prog, i've taken a 1 year maya class, and i can say i hate maya with a passion now.... XSI is a really coo prog but i haven't gotten in-depth with it, i've looked into some lightwave and like the extensive modelling tools and the little things they added in there.... anyway, there's no one person on earth that knows every 3d software inside out, so stop using all these bullshit references as facts....
so can everyone shut the fuck up already with their stupidass software wars? every piece of shit software from the $99 dollar Aimation:Master to the $17,000 Maya can create kickass shit if the guy in front of the computer is good.... |

Precicely my point...the program is less than 10% of the creative process...it's what you do with it that counts... |
