I have no idea what card I should be looking at. A friend of mine told me not to go with a Voodoo as to they dont do well with open GL drivers. I am in the dark here, if anyone has any suggestions it owuld be great, I am on a pentium 3/533 with 127 mb ram.

honestly a geforce or geforce 2 would do you great with that machine.

could probly get away with a TNT2 with detonator drivers too.

processor power for rendering. Top notch graphics card for full speed interface performance. A geforce2 card would do just fine...

Hey Kalen!

I recently went through 'card wars' so I might be able to help you here, since I'm also doing 3D ...

First of all - the Voodoo cards are not an option anymore, because the company went down and their assets got bought by Nvidia.

Which brings us to the GeForce cards. I think they're excellent - I had a GeForce1 for over a year and recently upgraded to a GeForce2 Ultra. Great card - I run 1600x1200 screenres and in my 3D program I've got NO problems.
And right now, the GeForce3 is being released. People were shocked to see those cards priced at U$700.- but I just talked to a friend of mine and he says he ordered an Asus GeForce3 for U$350. I definetely recommend to go with that one.
If that is out of your range, go with a GF2 GTS - stay away from the GF2 MAX, since it's not very fast.

Once you got the card, install the Nvidia reference drivers (Detonator3) - this will give you excellent compatibility in OpenGL applications. There will be display mistakes, but only professional cards $1000+ have rocksolid openGL driver. IMHO those are a waste of money if you're not doing hardcore professional work that needs one of those cards.

Allrighty?

Cheers,

Loki
