I see a lot of people in LA, so i was wondering if anyone would be interested in painting around the Santa Monica mountains on Sunday afternoons.

I won't give it any more thought if no one is up for it. But if some do, I could post a map and time to meet.

hmm... rattlesnake season is almost here....

wish I could join you, but that could be a bit difficult for me living here in Norway.

Anyway, hope someone joins you. (and I hope the drawings will be posted here in the forum)

Man, I would love to join you, but I'm a non-art major college student with no art supplies, no money, and no car. But some of you other guys who are a bit closer and better stocked better get your asses out there!

P.S. You're up late! I thought only college bums were awake at 4:00 on Sunday nights!

Sounds good, it's just too far away

Me and S4Sb had planned something similar for this summer in Germany. Check it out: http://www.sijun.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=000899

I'm in the same boat as Yaz, only a little later-I'll be moving to Santa Monica in Oct/Nov. Once I'm there, I want to organize as much art related shananagins as possible with you buds around there.

@#*&^$%! So I hadda go and move back to Northern California...
What a great thing to do, Craig! I'm part of a Sunday afternoon group up here. Sometimes there's 10 people, sometimes 30. End of day we gather and look at the results. Nothin' like painting outside to learn to truly "observe". If you get this thing going I hope you won't mind a "visitor" or two every once in awhile!

Watercolor setup can be pretty inexpensive, using a photo-tripod as an easel. Oils are more involved of course, but you can get a smaller "pochade" box and paint on canvas-board without breaking the bank.

For those of you who haven't done this before, but want to and don't know where to start - go get Kevin MacPherson's book on plein air painting. Materials, methodology, etc. He's a shape-painter like Spooge, so it would be a good reference.

Good luck...makes me wish I was still in Santa Monica...

I asked my boss, but I can't have any more days off this year. *Sighs deeply* I took a month off at Christmas, and fourteen sick-days last month, and I guess that just about ate up all my time off....

But if you (or anyone else, for that matter) ever find yourself in Vancouver...well, I'm too lazy to go out & paint au plein air on my own, but if someone went with me, I'd do it.

Hey Craig!

I'd love to join you! I've got a little watercolor action pack, that fits easily in my backpack.
I've done this before and LOVE it. Let me know when you're planning to go.

Oh and shady places are preferred - last time we were on a spot in topanga canyon that nearly liquified my brains due to the heat ...

Hey!!! I think I finally got it!! Spooge is like the sound of paint, and not what I thought...

Here I was thinking you were some sort of twisted pervert the whole time...

I guess the pervert is me. Sweet.

Sure spooge is a sound. It's an onomatopoeia.

Well, I guess we will have a lot of people in spirit.

As I have it, loki, mike, darklighter. Did I miss anyone? If any one else wants to show...

I will be doing this every weekend until July. I am moving then.

1:00 PM april 29, here

The parking area for the Malibu Bluffs State Rec area is right across the street from where malibu cyn road dead ends into PCH.

Park in there and let's meet by the vistors center.

I feel I have forgotten something. It can't be that easy. Please speak up if I screwed something up or it is not clear.

Where do you move to then? Germany is pretty good for inspiration. Weather is almost always rainy. But we have nice places on both coasts. Eastcoast is better tho
