Ugh. I took a painting to work today--a real one, that is, not a digital one--intending to spend the day on that.... Well, about an hour into it, my shoulder was in the most unbelievable pain. An hour after that, I couldn't move it at all. So...nothing but Wacom for me for the next little while. (This is really annoying for me. My scanner is horrid, so not a lot of my traditional art shows up on the Net. But I actually draw -all the time-.)
Just drawing on the computer doesn't hurt too much, though. I really only have to move from the elbow down.
I had this problem years ago, from playing the violin...had to have surgery & quit playing. So I'm going to take it easy on the painting. But I'm really annoyed.
Does anyone know what I can do to make this go away? I need a quick fix. I'm going to do the painting I was planning digitally instead, and see if I can get it to look more painterly than my usual fare. But I want to draw with pens, and I want to finish my painting.
I need my arm! |

If you hadn't posted that thread about drugs in Random Musings that was what I would've suggested
How about a nice massage by a professional masseur maybe... |

Sorry to hear that Socar. But I doubt anyone here can help you. How about seeing your doctor? |

*Sigh* No insurance till next month; no doctor till next month. (Although, if it gets any worse, I will bite the bullet & pay for it. I'm not a complete fool.)
A massage might be nice. But I hate people touching me. Drives me bananas. Still, any port in a storm, as they say. |

That sucks, Socar. You might want to try acupuncture, I have friends who rave about it. Also, the link to your website in your sig has an extra little bit at the end (a <BR> ). I thought you'd probably want to fix that. Hope you feel better soon! |

Well that sounds like a real problem. I mean about the no touching! Getting a profesional rub down can be better than sex. In fact, getting just an amature massage can be better than chocolate eclairs, even. |

Poor Socar.
My advice would be to get a long hot bath. Dip a towel into some hot water and wrap it around the arm where it hurts - that can help some too.
I'm trying to remember all the nice herbs I used to know that helped against stuff like this... well... at least eat something with garlic in case the arm gets inflamed - that might help. I had some serious problems with one of my shoulders a few months back - I had to start excercising the arm and the shoulder to fix it.
Hope you get better. |

Socar, my mom was a painter, and she had severe shoulder pain from years of painting. It was acupuncture that took care of it finally. |

I have a Doctor Ho (electro-stimulous massage machine, like theTennes machines physiotherapists use) It's great for my arm.
People may laugh, but it works like a hot damn. They're about a hundred bucks... Socar, you live in Van, right? you can try it out in Pacific Center, you may be surprised at how well it works. Hope this helps. |

ok, several good advices here, but mine would have to be that you should relax.Stop painting and drawing for some time. When the body says STOP, it means so. Take it easy for some days, and it will get bether.....(I'm pretty sure about that, from experience!) |
