for years i have found that i really enjoy drawing withe a ball point pen. it can deliver very fine and varied lines, a fair tonal range all with a very smooth feel.

still there's has always been an air of illigimacy to it. i don't know that i have ever seen anything marketed as an 'art' ball point.

am i the only one who feels that ball point pens are underrated as art tools?

the drawing isn't really of anything , i was just doodling.

Yeah sorta. Should be more widely used. Though there must be something like art ballpoint pens, my parents have a print of a painting (?) done entirely in differently colored ball point pens hanging around. The painting is ugly though that's not the fault of the pens but rather the artist's. Oh well yeah I agree that it's fun to draw with a ball point pen but I still prefer pencils because I'm lame and need the ability to correct my bad lines / anatomy / shading / (insert anything here).

BTW: How did you manage to post 15 posts in almost a year ? How often do you stop by this place ? Just wondering....

hi Bugscratch,

good to see i'm not alone on this . i can relate to usiing pencil to be able to make corrections. i generally find myself doodling without any pre thought with ballpoints 'just because it feels good' , but because i noticed that BPs don't always like graphite, surface dents and erasing(hmmm, maybe thats part of he reason they don't get used much)i would probable use a like table to draw on a blank page, tracing a template.

re: low posting .....my attentions have had to be elsewhere. this site just had way to much traffic for me to take the time with all of it. having found the ' view todays active posts' recently makes it more approachable.

I've loved ballpoing pen since I started drawing too. It does allow great tonal range, yet nice lines. The only thing that sucks from time to time is when it leaks or runs. Here's an example:

I use it too it is a heavenly pen. It was sent with divine providence to create the finest lines in the realm. Those who have the skill may draw the pen from it's cap and they shalt be king. To wield its sublime blade takes eons of diligigent b/s goodby

theres this guy who does art for adverts and even some stuff ended up in galleries. all in coloured ballpoint. i cant find his name though. i believe he was featured in an old copy of juxtapose or something similar. if that helps makes it more valid a tool who knows. i love them and agree that you can pull off some great shit with them.

Lukas is another master of the pen. Look at his old posts.

And, uhmm.. I hate to be a killjoy but they're not very archival, if you care about that sort of thing.
