Man, so i picked the worst possible time not to be around i guess. Anyway, i'll be shutting down the forums sunday night through monday to upgrade to the latest UBB, Version 6, it should have a bunch of really cool new features. In the mean time when the forums are down, everyone relax, take a deep breath, have a coke and a smile. When the forums reopen, i will have lowered the "flame tolerance" bar a whole lot. Forget "letting people express themselves", if its not constructive, and just pointless insults its getting deleted as soon as its seen. If it includes something worth reading but ends with a "OH YEA?! WELL !@#$%! YOU TOO!" then that line will be edited out. Repeated flamers and people who are obviously bringing down the quality of these forums will get only one warning, and will be ban if they continue. Unfortunately i can not shut down registrations, i can not ban posts for people who havent posted more than 1000 posts, i can not throw out the "newbies"....Doing this will only cut out potential help for your next drawing. As a place grows its gotta adjust. I had been away for a month or so for some reasons and i think that helped make things get outta hand a bit, but anyway, with addition of moderators and me being back more often i confident things will get better. I want this place to get better and good again so i will start changing it with MYSELF, not by telling others to shape up. I will start posting more feedback to art posted since that may encourage others to do the same. I will get Draw Club going again for May, I will actually try harder to get those other moderators selected. I do not like green eggs and ham, not in a house or with a mouse. Suggestion: See what you can do to change the way you are around here that can help make this place better and then give it a shot.
So sunday night around 9pm PST this place shuts down and will be back monday night sometime.
S BE HAPPY!

What about posts writen in Martian languages?
Hey, Dahbih.
Do you remember me? Ted Galaday? We met once at your parents house after a potluck and I sort of apllied for a job with you (that I wasn't qualfied for, shoot). I emailed once with some anoying questions, you didn't reply! And although I knew you had a forum I had never registered until I kept seeing links to it from all over the internet. What a cool thing it is to have Mullins contribute! Now I lie awake at night thinking about all the silly pictures I'm going to post on your site. Your stuff has gotten really good but you don't seem to post. How Come? What are you up to?
Anyway, peace to you. |

It is kind of a bad time for this, but oh well. Props on the increased moderation. This place needs a real shot in the arm and it'll definitely help. I think we're all tired of the bullshit... oh, that reminds me: Will posts with curse words that are not insults be deleted or edited? I suppose it's best to hold our collective tongues; an intelligent person doesn't need to swear to express themselves besides. Anyway, I was just curious.

Yeah Dhab, go for it.
Do anything you believe will save this place, it's far too cool to be lost...

Good idea- upgrades can be cool. Moderating out some of the noise would be good too. Some forums have a system of "ranking" for credibility. I'm thinking of ebay, and slashdot. Ebay has people ranked by their dealings with others, perhaps this forum could go with number of removed flames or something. You'd "know" before you even read something if it was likely to be worth while.
Slashdot does a "karma" thing, where good/bad karma accumulates with moderating posts. Its similar to tracking flames, only in this instance, its set for moderators on that forum.
Anyways- thanks for making this place available for the unruly lot of us. Good luck with the updates!

From all the time i've been here, I've only seen flames in
[*]Digital Art Discussion (Complain about a rip)
[*]Random Musings (Moral ethics)
[*]Gallery (Rips)
Never in WIP, wonder why ? |

Because people who flame don't go into WIP.
Hey, Dhabih, can I have your babies? Please don't start editing out non sequiturs. I don't know what I'd do. I'd be silenced.
