Is digital art CG, and computer aided art? Or could it be completely hand drawn? Shoot me now because I'm confused.

There has been of late great debate (what is that called... not alliteration... assonance! That's it!) about what "digital art" actually is. I personally feel that if you used a computer in any way to make your art, it falls under the "digital" category. It isn't uncommon, however, for people to post work done in "traditional" media here. Just about anything goes, although "paintovers" of existing photos, photo-montages, and photo-manipulations are sometimes frowned upon (regardless of the merits of any individual piece). I suppose you were asking for a dictionary-type definition of the term rather than the opinion (read: ramblings) of one of this forum's members, but I unfortunately, that's all I can give you! Hopefully my babble helped in some small way.

No, that's all I needed to know. I was wondering were I should post my drawings. Since I don't have Photoshop, or anything of its kind, I guess I won't be posting in this section much. I only use a piece of paper, and a pencil. Thanks for answering!

This is just discussion, if you were to post artwork you would do it in WIP of Finished.

Yeah.

*shrug*

Digital Art rocks. If you're already doing pencil/paper art, then you're a step in the right direction.

Since it's never too late to start digital art, i suggest you a) take your high school ID over to a college bookstore and get Photoshop for like, half the price (around $275-ish)

b) you can then scan your pencil/paper art into there and color, clean it up, texture, generally render (retouch it) it in there.

or

c) you can go get a Wacom Intuos (graphics tablet/pad) for around 200-300 bucks (for a good mid-size) and go full-out into the digital art genre.

You can go the a-b route and save yourself the 300 bucks and still be an accomplished artist. Lots of well-known artists just use Photoshop for cleaning up and some texture work, like Feng Zhu.

In short, go for it. :P

Holly Jolly - this is a difficult one, but let me try to explain from my view:

CG - means 'computer graphics' or sometimes 'computer generated' - typical question would be 'Are we going this CG or going to shoot it live action?'

CGI - means 'computer generated imagery' which is the more 'academic' term

Digital Art - I'd say whenever something visual has been created by means of a computer. (Music could fall into this too - but I've never heard a musician say the he was a digital artist )
