How do you guys use the air brush tool in photoshop? I tried using it, and I just couldn't put it to good use. Do you need a tablet to be able to use the air brush tool effectively?

Set it to a very low opacity and build up from there. That's the mouse way.
[edit]And set the brush size to something tiny.[/edit]
