I hope its all right to be pestering you guys about this... but I was wondering if any of you peeps have attended the art program at UCLA or Univ. of Southern California? I've been accepted to these schools, but have no clue which is better for what I want to do... or if it really matters
My plan is to do character animation in the film industry. I can also go to Syracuse's computer graphics program, Rochester Institute of Technology's animation program or Pratt Institute's animation program (if anyone has gone here, please lemme know how you like it ). But considering I live in Chicago, I'd much rather go to sunny california... also because the film industry is there too where i can make contacts. At USC, i would major in drawing for animators and minor in computer animation. At UCLA, I would major in either illustration or design and minor in film. However, I'd be doing most of my animation stuff and demo reel outside of the classroom if I went to UCLA.
So i guess if anyone knows anything about these schools or about their repuations, any response would be greatly appreciated. It seems that USC has a better program for animators because of the minor, but money is a factor. UCLA is a lot cheaper, and i think the general feeling in the industry is that as long as you can depict motion through very good figure drawings, than it is better than just doing the art on the computer.. which would mean that just mastering your skills in figure drawing is a lot better? I mean, how much would a computer graphics program teach you about theories of animating, and not just the program? I would think that most of it is just experience, which I am gaining a lot of. Sorry for making this so long or confusing. As you can see, Im completely oblivious as to what direction to go. Thanks again for any help or suggestions!

hehe, i got into pratt and syracuse and rit too, for the same programs... i heard the pratt animation program is pretty weak and that RIT's is mostly technical. i also got into SVA in manhattan for computer animation... does anyone go there? I'm unhappy with the art program at university at buffalo and i want out...

Shadowrun is a roleplaying game of the dark Future, 2060 to be accurate. Dragons and magic has awakened after centuries of slumber. Really cool setting, even though it sounds extreme. |
