As high as your computer can handle!!!
if your printing images at 8.5" X 11", then 300 DPI should be sufficient (about 20 Megs). if you are printing larger, resolution doesn't matter as much (because you aren't looking at it close up), and you could prabably get away with 150 DPI.
When I print at 24" X 36" I usually make the file about 75 - 80 Megs (180 DPI)...
Also remember that the resolution that you print at, should always be a divisible of your printer resolution...
My printer can print at 1440, so I make my files 720, 360, or 180 DPI, you get sharper prints this way.
