First for all thanks for all the nice comments on the first game.
I am currently trying to figure out a better way to do v2.0 of this tile game.
to make it a bit different from the ice- tile game and to make it easier for me I would suggest the following new rules:
* all tiles have to be your own work (of course) and have to be drawn or rendered and fit seemlessly (like last time).
* you will see your tile in the whole picture as soon as you sent it in, so will all the others.
Maybe this will create a more homogenous result.
* the tiles will be 100x100 pixels
* there will be 10x7 tiles this time (so 1000x700 pixels total)
* anyone will be able to draw as many tiles as he/she wants to.
* the time limit for a tile will be about 1 day.
* if you apply for a tile your tile will be reserved for that time under your name, after that time your tile will be open again and available for others to do.
none of this points is a MUST, its just some suggestions that I wanted to throw in the room.

nono.. this is just the discussion here.
The whole thing will be based on a webpage that awetopsy and I will throw together.
The page will simply display all tiles.
the ones that are already done, the ones that are currently reserved the ones that are free to draw and the ones that are not free yet.
so there won't be a waiting list- everyone can participate. he/she just needs to look on the page if there is a tile free.
the tiles will be sent by email like before probably. [no details clear yet] |

I'm not sure whether all of the changes you plan are good for the result.
a) Having the possibility to see adjoining tiles discourages creativity, since it's easier to just continue to draw whatever is visible in the adjoing tiles. So if a starter tile has a sunset, it's pretty likely that what you will get as a result will be a horizon image stretching from one side of the mosaic to the other.....
b) Why not take a wallpaper-convenient size like 800x600 or 1600x1200 ? I guess many people would like to use the result as a wallpaper.
That said, I still like the idea.

Yes, I agree it would be sort of weird to see the other tiles... it takes away from the fun part of having tons of little separate images meshed together =)
I would love to see a theme going on, not anything specific but just a general theme like a color.
We used to do a tile sort of game in school. We'd have a picture of a celebrity like Marilyn Monroe or Elvis and divide it up into 20 or so equal pieces. Then each square was assigned to an artist (each one being about an inch in size). Then the artist had to blow it up to a 1 foot square and paint it in b/w. When we were done, we hung all the squares on the wall to see how they matched up and you end up with this massive picture of Marilyn
Did anyone else do that in school?
Sorry, it's not quite related to this tile game

maybe we should have a registry deadline and the size depending on the entries.
I suggest a bigger tile this time! |

hmm.. If you would rather not want to see the other tiles it will get a bit tough for me.
If we really make it wallpaper size this time (maybe even 1600x1200 as bugscratch suggested) I would have to crop and send a LOT of pictures. I don't have a script for that like the guys on ice.org have, so I would have to do that all by hand.
I guess what the "see it all" version can offer is, that the end result will be a more or less coherent picture.
we even could make a topic/theme for the whole thing.. like "armageddon" for instance.

Hey Nex, can't you just make an action in Photoshop to do it for you then run it through the batch thing so it does it all at once?
I've never really used it before but I think it would work ok... someone else might know better though.

Count me in! And I'm also against showing tiles until the whole thing is finished.
Maybe you could share work with some people from this board. I'm sure there are some people who like to help |

I honestly like the idea of it being a secret tile thing too nex. still give everyone a topic to do such as "armageddon" or whatever...
Im doing HTML at this moment but I am primarily an Artist so I can work on sorting tiles too. no biggie.
Oh yeah, I think 200 x 200 tiles would be sweet. It definately makes the one Im hosting at work look great.

why just don't do it like before....
You get a tile position and make a pic that fits with the other ones...

Loved the last one, wanna be in on the next one, we should try the idea of showing them as they grow, and then if it doesn't work we can always run another one the original way |

Tap, tap, tap. Is this thing on?
It's hard to believe that with all the great responses to the last tiles game, that not many of you wanted to join a new one on http://tiles.ice.org It is just for the users of this message base. Just like the last game, but everything is automated for you.
No one even posted a message here about it, why? |
