Maybe as a artist I take things too personally sometimes. However I was told by many online sources and friends that this is the be all and end all place to post some artwork and get some feedback from my peers. Early this week I posted a image in the "Finished Artwork / Gallery" thread looking for some feedback. No one replied. Does this mean I have mad skills and I don't need feedback, or is there some kind of clique here that I have to pay my dues in order to get feedback.
This mind would like to know.
Peace,

From what I gather, you have to pay homage to Craig Mullins, Loki, etc, ignore most of 20th century art, except comic books, and paint very realistic sci-fi/fantasy scenes.
Oh, and you have to piss off faust at least once.

I just checked out your old post. I think the reason you didn't get any critiques is because... well, it's not a very easy picture to crit. It's a design, so there's nothing which you can really say is right or wrong about it, or needs improvements. It's MUCH easier to give advice on a picture of a specific object, or a scene, or a person, etc, which is a lot of what gets posted here. You'll also get a little bit better response if you specifically ask for a critique. "what do you think of the colors, the design, the pattern, etc".
Anyway.
The overall design is pretty cool, but (to be honest), the execution isn't the most exciting thing in the world. The background is a bit flat and repetetive, and the color doesn't quite seem to go with the cross design's color. The cross itself looks great, but you could probably make it look even a little bit more shiny. As it is right now, it's a bit dull.
Anyway, I hope you stick around. There really is a lot to be learned here, even if you don't get too many crits on your own work. Pay attention to other peoples' posts, especially the ones that get a lot of replies. There's often a lot of good discussion going on, and you can pick up a lot of great information, even if it doesn't apply directly to what you're working on. |

chill out a little, most people don't have time to look at very many posts a day, and if they see a reason to comment they will, if not they won't. Do you comment on every single thing yourself? |

Feh. If people didn't respond to your work it probably means they didn't have anything to say. Even with all the talent lurking around here it doesn't necessarily follow that they'll have something constructive to add. Try being more specific about the feedback you're interested in. If you're just soliciting people's initial reaction, then ask for it! But don't assume we know you're looking for it.
I'm not talking about you here in particular now, but judging by the grumblings I've been reading about the lack of feedback lately, I suspect a lot of people think this is art school and they're entitled to free art lessons. To these people I'd like to kindly remind them we're not your instructors or your fan club; we're your peers. You'll get out of this forum what you put in to it.

the design is nice, although i think too slick and digital. needs more texture and union with the background. they're in different worlds - background and design.

-maybe try posting near the weekend for more feedback. |

Thank you everyone for your comments. BTW, the idea of the image was to have a cross slightly buried in sand. And yes, (takes CA medical perscription & green beer) I will chill out.
Thanks again everyone,

This is a problem. When you post something for help, it is easier for everyone if the direction and style were clear. It is hard seeing what intentions are sometimes.
If someone posts a cubist picture with two eyes on the same facing plane, I, being the knuckle-dragger that I am, would suggest that you fix that problem with the anatomy.
My point is nobody knows if you are doing something intentionally or not.
Maybe more specific questions would get more feedback?
Some styles here are very unique and very few people are really qualified to say much to help.
With the picture you posted, I could say, "cast some shadows" but maybe you wanted really to be more graphic.
You get the idea.

400+k image takes a long time to download using a modem. A lot of people probably didn't want to wait. Try a lower jpeg setting next time.
