i remember reading one theory, which speculated that the painting "the mona lisa" was a self portrait. da vinci the cross dresser...

it slipped my mind for a second: utah and the lds. ok now that makes sense, i have heard the lds say that nudity in art is evil and improper.

fucking mormons, im glad they all live there and not here. i guess im being ignorant and religiously intolerant, but i wouldnt be suprised if the entire population of utah could be traced back to one guy.

Many of the mormons I've met have been genuinely-nice people, if a bit oblivious to a world outside Utah . . . what's scary is how much religion spills over into politics here. Believe it or not, porn is already illegal in Utah. You can't buy alcahol on a sunday. Women who attend BYU aren't allowed to wear bikinis. In order to have a public dance in Provo, you need to have metal detectors, security guards, and buy a $100 permit. If you live in BYU-approved housing, you can't have a member of the opposite sex in your bedroom, ever. If any non-religious holiday falls on a sunday, its official celebration is moved to an adjacent day. They did it for Independance Day of '99 and New Year's Eve 2000. That's right, I was expected to celebrate July 3rd and New Year's Eve Eve.

You'd better believe I have an ACLU card in my wallet.

I had a mormon friend who said they aren't allowed 'chemicals' like caffeine. Hence no coffee or tea. He could drink Coke, though. Double standard? I also don't see the distinction between a 'chemical' like caffeine and, say, your body's adrenaline...

No alcohol either, it goes without saying, so celebrating New Years's Eve's Eve can't have been too fun in Utah, Balistic

And to say Michangelo's David is porn is judging a great work of art by contemporary moral blinkers. If one of my friends said that to me, I'd guess they were being silly. I can just see the reaction of the Italian public to a petition from Utah that the statue of David should be made to wear loose fitting boxers and a nice woollen vest to cover his nipples.

The US is supposed to be divided into the "godless" coasts and the Great Lakes area, vs the rest. I seem to recall its called the Glacier Theory.

The theory is that as the last ice age receded, it tore off good soil on the coasts and around the lakes. In other words, no one can grow crops there.

So, non-farmers live on the coasts and around the lakes, and tend to be less involved with farms and traditional lifestyles and religions than the farmers elsewhere.

The United States really is 2 countries.

And frankly, on a personal note, if they can't appreciate good porn, then they deserve to be deprived of it.
