I've recently found out that Doging and Burning are the "OUT" thing to do. Use them only for fine touch ups if you will. Dont ignore them, just dont use them as your main light. I myself like to paint in screen and multiply mode. Do this: Use very low opacities. Use very light colors when painting with multiply, and very dark colors when in screen mode. I suggest you just mess around with this. See what happens when you screen an area with blue, with green, with yellow, with grey. See what happens when you paint with multiply.
Basicly, multiply adds color and darkens at the same time (correct me if I'm wrong) screen lightens and adds color. Overlay is cool too, but Im not quite sure how to control it yet. I think overlay just changes the hue. WEll anyways.. Here's to your new knowledge, and the wishful thinking you had photoshop this whole time. If not I'm screwed. :P

the midtones will have the most color in them, the closer to the shadows and highlights you get the less color will be in them. If you mean how do I get a realistic light situation on a pillar for instance then you are going to have to do alot of life drawing and painting, then eventually you're eye will become trained and you'll be able to notice the subtle variations that reflected light can produce on objects and then you'll be able to invent lighting systems in your head. I hope yuo understand what I'm trying to convey :0 |
