When I paint in painter the colors are all bright and the contrast is very good, but when I save them and view them in another program they turn very dull and gray. Anyone have noticed this? And is there any "cure" to this? Maybe it is because I save the files to jpg and painter is lousy at saving files to jpg? I havent tried other formats though. Ill check it out tomorrow but right now its bedtime.

I havent encountered this problem.
the only color shift I get is when it is saved in painter as cmyk and then I open it in photoshop...photoshop muddies it up similar to how you are talking.
try doing your paintings rgb instead of cmyk.
if you need them to be cmyk then save them as a tiff and it will let you convert it there. rgb color is best for everything except printing.
good luck

When I did the Dwarf Mountain pic in Painter, I thought that I had got the colours & contrast just right.
I uploaded the pic to digitalart.org and was dissapointed at how faded the pic turned out.
I think it is to do with the vibrant colour wheel that is always there, I think it may affect your interpretation of colour. |

Something is fishy here. Perhaps it is the color wheel...

Never really had a problem with this, unless it's with the watercolor tools (forgetting to dry them), layer/floater issues, or the CMYK thing that Jason mentioned. Of course, there is the Mac/PC gamma issue, which is always annoying, but may not be an issue in your problem
