I'm working on a picture of a vampire right now(Yes, I know the vampire thing has come and gone). I'm using a photo reference(of an actual vampire! hehe), but I simply can't get his skin tones right. How am I supposed to get realistic looking skin?

well, you have the basic flesh color, but actual skin derives a lot of color from the enviroment, so it would depend on the lighting. also, with a vampire, the skin would be paler, almost white, so the ambient light would affect it even more.

Hi there, I have a short blurb about painting skin tones on my web site at the bottom of the tutorials page. It is a brief synopsis of what I give my students at the start of each semester. Let me know if you have any questions.

Seeg, I have a rhetorical and unanswerable question, which is:
WHY COULDN'T I HAVE SEEN YOUR ADVICE WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL TWELVE YEARS AGO?!?!?!?!?
Your little tips pages are founts of good, practical knowledge that I found very hard to find when I was a student. I went around in a very frustrated state for a while because I couldn't figure out 'how to paint', and I couldn't find anyone who would teach me down at the brushstroke level. Damn!
But since I now have the power of the Wacom tablet, thankfully I'm making up for lost time, and maybe I'll have something good enough to post here.
Thanks loads!
