Hey, I've recently become interested in the 3D side of things. I have had quite a time trying to wrap my head around the modelling/texturing interface of 3ds. Iw as wondering if somebody could offer a good resoruce for a very beginner. Mind you, currently, I have no desire to even touch on the animation side of things. I think, as a beginner, all the features 3ds offers to me are a little overwhelming. I have used Rhino 3d in the past, but mainly stuck to creating models from primatives and those boolean functions, like combine and subtract. I am not sure if this is a good way to go about things tho. I want a method that will allow me to take my models to the texturizing stage. I might be making no sense at all, but that is because I don't really have a clue about this stuff. What i need is a resource that takes me through the steps of creating something basically simple (i can avoid organic thigns for now) and texturizing it with the 3ds interface. For example, maybe scenery or objects that have skins, moreso that just a wrapped rock/glass texture. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

For mechanical modeling (cars, machines, etc.) learn rhino well. It is very powerfull.
You'll find lots of info at their website www.rhino3d.com

for max. Go to www.3dluvr.com www.3dcafe.com www.max3d.com
and have a search in google "3d max tutorials"
As online tutorilas usually are small and not so great buy some good books. You'll find good reviews at www.3drender.com

I use rhino and 3ds and together they can do a lot.
