Ok art ppl, there is a John Singer Sargent exhibition going on now: http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/Exhibitions/Sargent/default.htm
If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and wants to go, I'm planning on a trip(flying, probably). I've already asked a few artist friends in the gaming industry, and they are trying to work out their schedules.
I'm planning on doing this sometime towards the middle or end of Febuary. I will go by myself if no one is going, but it would be cool to attend the exhibition with fellow artists. The show ends around middle of March.

Yeah that's the great thing about living an hour away from New York City. I can go to the Metropolitan and see whoever I want to, including Sargent. When I went a few weeks ago they had about 15 out. I just couldn't stop looking at them, and as soon as I got home that night I wanted nothing more than to hop back on the train and see them again. |

Dude, you live there and you don't go?! Grrrrrrrrrr! Go! You REALLY should. I'm spending hundreds of dollars to fly there and stay at a hotel just so I can see Sargent's paintings in person. Man, you REALLY REALLY should go.
Grrrrr!! |

Well, if any of you will be there during that weekend, and spots some asian dude with realy long hair, wearing lots of black, and drooling at one of the paintings, say hi and don't run away. . .. |

Man, I might haveta postpone my visit to friends in Seattle to coincide with this little art excursion. Sounds like it'd be worth it to wait an extra week before driving up there for the weekend. The 17th you say? Yet another reason why I should be looking for a job up that way... must.. update.. portfolio/demo reel hehe.
[edit] pssst, Lunatique...Nova's a dudette Just incase you didn't know.

Flinthawk-- Hey man, let's do it. No pressure though. No wild, good time is guaranteed. After all, we are a bunch of stuffy artists that sits around all day doodling.
Nova--So sorry for referring to you as a "dude." My bad. Shoulda checked out your webby first. Well, if you don't mind hanging out with boring artist guys and drooling over Sargent's paintings, definitely come and hang, ok?

Hey, nice! Good move. Now you get to see Sargent!
Well, just curious, the people that might go: do you guys actually want to meet(for example, 1:00 pm at the front entrance of the museum, or something silimar), or do you guys just want to "let's just see if we bump into each other."?
Well, you guys know what I look like(read a few posts up), so if you want to do the latter, I'll be easy to spot.
Cousins in San Mateo, huh? Do you visit them here?

Hmmm. Maybe this could also be the first "Sijun's West Coast Digital Art Gathering"? It's just a thought.
On my side, I might have a couple of guys from Savage Frog and 3DO, but nothing's confirmed on their side. I might very well go lonewolf after all.
Well, basically, the more the merrier, right?

i think it would be best if we all met in one place at a certain time. my friend is probably going to be coming to see the sho, but she needs to figure some plans out before her (and my) plans to go can be confirmed.
i was just thinking.. it'd be neat if Dhabih just so happened to show up.. he does live across the lake after all..
Cousins? well, not as often as i'd like. my family and i are going down there next year i think, and i'm thinking we will visit

Dhabih lives across the lake? Hmm, maybe he'll check the forum soon and make plans to come?
Well, let me know when you and your friends decide on a plan--sometime before I actually head on out to the airport, I hope.
Well, if I still live here by the time you visit your cousins, we'll hang, ok?
Man, I actually turned down this girl, who wants to fly from San Diego to visit me, so I could go see the Sargent show. Not that I care more about art than my love life, but the truth is, I've loved Sargent's work for many years now, and I've only known this girl for a few weeks, and never even met her face to face. So, there. Sargent wins.

Cool. Well, I'll be arriving there around 11 am, so I guess I should meet you guys at a certain spot? Since Nova's arriving around 1:30-ish, we should meet at the main entrance to the Sargent exhibit? Not the art museum entrance, but the entrance to the Sargent section(I don't know the layout of the floor plan there, but I assume there is one MAIN entrance to the Sargent exhibition?). If there's more than one entrance, I'll kinda walk between them, and chances are, I'll be spotted(remember, asian guy, very long hair. If you must see a pic, go to my website and you'll find one: www.arcanum.net/~lunachild
Woohoo! Neat indeed.

whew, taking a break from work for a minute here.
Mm.. not so sure there's a certain entrance to the exhibit, but we'll watch for each other. I'll be with two other people, a guy and a girl. Chances are I'll be wearing something darkish, with a long black coat and carrying around a sketchbook. Pic is somewhere in here (i'll update it tonight with a recent pic): http://nova.digitalart.org

Well, I'll be on the plane tomorrow morning. If you are going, I'll see you there! (The actualy meeting time and place is posted above somewhere.
If you live in that area and won't go, then SHAME ON YOU. Sargent is considered worldwide as one of the most amazing painter that ever lived. From his formal portraits, impressionistc experiements, landscapes, figures, to his completely mastery of oils and watercolor, he is second to none. It doesn't matter if you are a digital artist, 3D artist, traditional artist, comic book artist, cartoonist, or animator; seeing original works of Sargent up close in person will be one of the highlights of your artistic existence. If you think I'm exaggerating or you just couldn't care less about all this "academic" stuff, I hope you'll keep that point of view all your life. Because if one day you do realize what you missed out on, and there won't another Sargent exhibition planned for another 10~20 years, you'll have to travel all over the US and Europe to see this many Sargent pieces all at once.
Ok, off the soap box now. . ..
See you there tomorrow!
