I had been looking into doing a degree in Illustration somewhere outside the UK(e.g., like Art Centre). However, it seems that Industrial Design is the only other course that is available to postgraduates!
This is real shame actually.
Can anyone recommend(from personal experience or word of mouth) any good Art Colleges (even in the UK) that offer Illustration for postgraduates. Industrial Design would be fair enough, but I think that a course in Illustration is more what I would like to study. |

hmm depends how many years you want to study. Why not just take a illustration program??? Does it have to be postgraduate? Does it have to be in the Us?? If not well look into Canada for schools like Sheridan College or Alberta college of arts or even the emily carr college in Bc. I know sheridan college in toronto have a postgraduate advance illustration course ( 1 year) available but i think you need a illustration diploma to get into it.
Im no expert but dont you need a diploma in art or such to get into a postgraduate program like illustration if it existe...??? |

If I'm not correct Ceenda, you have a computer science degree? If you do, you most likely won't be able to get into most post-graduate art programs with it. Most colleges and universities require you to have a degree in fine arts or the equivilent work experience. But there are always exceptions.

sheridan college in oakville, ontario, canada offers a 3 year illustration program, and unless the structure has changed, it goes like this:
1st year, general illustration theory and whatnot. its the introductory year
2nd year, the program splits off in two directions, and you choose which you want. the first is technical illustration, and the second is artistic illustration. if you're interested in the design aspect of illustration, you'd probably be more interested in the technical half.
3rd year, basically just a practise year for building up your skills and portfolio, and learning about the industry.
i don't know about any other schools, but i wouldn't be surprised to find a similar course outline elsewhere.

hehe, i'm also trying to decide if I should take id or illustration. ID and some atelier would be a good option. |

What's Id??? anyways ... hmmm Im pretty sure Sheridan would let you expresse your art the way you want. I mean year 2 and 3 of the illustration course you can either take the scientific option or the artistic/book cover option. Sooo if i decide to do fantasy books WElll tobad for them =).. I still have to get accepted into their program soo i will know HOPEFULLY by the starting of april/ end of march =) |
