MPM,
300 dpi is the standard for most professional priniting (magazines, postcards, etc). The presses may print at 2500 dpi or whatever, but 300 dpi is what you submit.
If printing on your home inkjet, you can get away with 150 dpi. |

My rule of thumb is to aim for a resolution that's twice the size of LPI (size of the dots) you're going to be printing at. So, if your printer uses a 150 line screen, aim for 300. A lot of printers print color work at 133 LPI, so technically 266 DPI would be sufficient. More resolution, of course, is always better because it allows you to resize a little, do a little trimming, etc without falling beneath your minimum.
For reference, all my color work is 400 dpi and higher. Some black and white images I work with (expecially those with linescreens on them or super-fine lines) commonly get up to 1000 dpi.

hi all
if anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it,
I'm not sure what resolution to do my art in, I am doing some work that an interested party has suggested making posters for but I'm thinking that would be an insanely large image, I don't know if my computer can handle it.It seems sluggish at 300ppi/9"x13" but is that too small to print later on?
Is 300ppi as low as one should go if they plan on making quality prints with it?
thanx |
