Ok, this is more of a pure digital art question than of a drawing question. I am going to lead by example, how many of you have seen Sleepy Hollow? Well if you have then you have obviously seen the beginning credits where it mentions the producer and titles and stuff like that. Well I was wondering how you could do such an effect of a ghostly cloud turning into a legible text and then back to a cloud that dissapears. The reason I would like to know is because I would like to make a webpage with that concept for the link images.
I probably could do a frame of it myself, but as soon as I get into animation I stumble over myself, so it wouldn't look too good.
Well thanks for the help.

If would have to do that, I would use Avid Elastic Reality. It can morph images and create image sequences. There is a new one by RealViz - called Retimer <- that one might help as well. Its pretty easy effect

Most examples of that sort of thing are done with particle systems. A lot of the high-end 3D programs have this sort of functionality, although I think that most of the really impressive examples from movies are either done with Dynamation, or proprietry software.
Row.

I thought that Dynamation is dead ....
Wavefront is no longer exists. Alias bought Wavefront and TDI, then SGI bought A|W, and now they have MAYA, that doesn't really offer what Power Animator(Alias), Explore (TDI) and Dynamation (Wavefront) could do.
I could be misaken what compony had which program. I guess If talking about high-end stuff today, then Descreet with Flint,Flame,Inferno,Smoke etc are ruleing in SFX business. But as I said for that specific effect I would use good old Elastic Reality (last releas 1995 I believe).
