PLs dont tell me what you think that i am not seeing, its exactly like saying you're right and im wrong. I can say with confidence that i am an experience "photographer" in a way and that i have formed my own opinion on photography.
Yeah you have some good points But i still dont see photography as Original material since alot of times its stuff that you can see with the naked eye in an everyday life as oppose to painting well anything can come true.
Lets say if you take a bunch of pics adn then DO SOMETHING like a photo collage or anythign else with them for that matter well that is original. I think its what you do with the photos that make it art and not the photo it self. I just think that a pic in its pure forme means nothing more than capturing a memory.
I can see your point of contrast but again alot of times just playing with the basic elements get soo dull and boring and ANYONE can do outstanding things with these you dont have to have and special skills or talents.
Sure their are a few exceptions of good photographer and it is very RARE that i have seen any that have inspired me or struck me.
Thanx for contradicting me =) im always up for a little debate. Feels good to get it out the system.. Talk to ya later bud

You mean putting words in your mouth like you just did to me? I carefully said "I think..." if you read my post.
I know what you're getting at. Anyone with a camera can snap off shots and produce a photograph, whereas a painting takes allot more prepwork. God knows I've know way too many amateur photographers who thought they were good. Personally, I'm impressed most by images that are constructed, and I find film at least as difficult in terms of controlling seperate elements. Turn on a light and Whamo, there goes your balance.
On an artistic level, I think photography is just different than painting. The technical part of rendering is done for you, so what you have left is what to put on a frame, which is ultimately what I feel is important in art.
Anyway, to each his own I guess...thanks for jousting
