Salutations,

So the splits happened for about 3 weeks now, time for feedback. Overall you all happy with it? Has it helped keep things more organized and is it easier to keep track of messages? Should Work in Progress and the Gallery forums be combined?

Post your thoughts on what you like and don't like about it.

Moderators are on the way soon too, one is selected already, others are being looked at. I'll make announcement once thats all final.

I like the split. It helps keep things out that you don't want to see. It allows you to choose what you want. More stuctured and can find exactly what you want. I don't think the In Progress and Finished forums should be combined. It will be harder for people to go through and get the things they want. Some want to just view the finished ones, and they would have to go through a lot of in progress ones they do not wish to see. I think it should stay the way it is split now. Good Job.

I kind of enjoy chaos personally, Dhabih. Jumping from each section gets to me a bit.

To sum it up, I miss the variation of posts now that they are so segregated. But in all honesty this is probably one of the better routes to keep things in order.

I didn't like it at first, but it kinda grows on you. I'd still like to see some cosmetic changes and something that tells you the name of the last poster on the main screen and in the threads.

Yep its good, combining the two leaves room for frustration and general un-organisation, things are running smoothly as is.

Things are dandy... immkay

the split has been very good for these reasons:

1. everyone has been posting in the right spots for the most part.

2. sometimes when you feel like commenting on something that isn't finished, you go straight to that unfinished section.

3. people with slow connections like myself sometimes feeling like just discussing art or making a random musing and not downloading pictures.

4. navigation has been very easy

ever since the split i have been comming to these forums more often than before.

as seen in Freddios thread:
I think it's hard to keep up with all the very interresting threads. But the longer I stay, the more I manage it and the more I feel like home again.

And maybe it's just me, but since the split I noticed some changes. All the oldtimer check the forums again. And the niveau of posts and pics raised to a higher level. Also I get more replies than before and 0 post threads become less and less.

Can you think of a perfect solution anyways?

Hmm... in general it feels like our small cottage suddenly turned into a huge mansion and I don't know where the bathroom is, if you know what I mean.

I like the split so far, it helps keep posts on the page so that there's less likelyhood that it'll shoot off the page and never get a response. The only things I could think of to change would be details such as who last posted to each thread, someway of letting people know how big the download for a thread is, etc.

the_monkey: ??? did you think Bradford said 'three' instead of 'these'...because otherwise I have no clue what you meant by that counting comment. Read the post again if that's the case.

I definitely like having the discussion section pulled out from the gallery sections. But having works in progress separate from finished stuff seems a bit redundant. If you're in the mood to, say, look at really nice art by some of the more experienced artists in here, you can't just go to the "finished" gallery, 'cause they post just as much in the "in-progress" gallery as anywhere else. (in general.) If you're in the mood to crit something, well, people who post stuff in the finished gallery are still looking for feedback, right?

I guess I really only have two major issues with separating the two gallery forums. First, it can be a pain trying to remember which thread was in which section when you want to go back and read the replies, and two, it IS a lot more clicking.

But then again, the forum is getting so many posts now, it might just all go to hell if you re-combined the gallery threads. All things considered, it's still a huge improvement.

MErge the Work in progress with finished gallery.

Because as far as I can tell they are nearly the same.

my thread before

the thing I have noticed about the forum split is that im finding it hard to keep track of all the threads. Like i find myself more often going to the finished gallery when there are some really cool posts in the work in progress forum.
and also there are a lot less replies to threads.

I sort of feel like its exactl;y the same as it used to be except now I have to click more.

also everyone head over to the random musings good topics going on over there.

the forum split has made it easier
to get a good overview on what's
new and what you allready have
looked in to.
even though a merger of wip and g/fa
might sound like a good idea it's
so much faster now to find the
stuff that's new. and that's good
for people with slow modem connections =)

I like the split... although the distinction between the Gallery/Finished Art and WIP forums is a little blurry. But it doesn't bother me, and I find that by having each forum in a separate window I can keep track of things pretty easily. So far, so good. I also like the amount of new talent in the past few months; it's probably not related, but it's been cool. Overall, so far, so good!

Dhab,

For the long term, splitting the forum is a great decision. Overall I'm pretty happy with the split. Things are much more organized and are easier to find.

I'm not sure if combining the Work in Progress and Gallery would be such a good idea, considering the way this forum is growing. In the long run I think it will benefit the forum, but some days I really wish things were back to the way they were. I think it depends on the amount of posts.

Also, having moderators (Can I be one? ) around will be welcomed by everyone (except for the ones causing trouble of course).

You've done a great job with the forums Dhabih.

Take care.

well i have only been here since october, but i love this place!

the split is just that...i'm split...i cant decide.....

i like the split cause posts dont get buried as fast.

but then again, you have to search around for that one post you wanted to read again.

what about changing the message icons from smileys to the 3-4 different catagories....like work in progress, crits, help, finished works, random BS, etc...

and leave the smileys in the messages themselves.

I'm all for the split. Helps keep things organized. I must say though that without the cooperation of the forum members, it couldn't have worked as well as it has.

So provided everyone sticks to the rules, I'd say the split has been successful.

Even though I haven't been around for long, I did see the old forum. I think this is better.

Mattready: I keep track of my posts and ones that I have replied to, and other interesting posts, by writing down on a table. Date posted, Forum, Topic name, Posted by, and some additional notes. When you think a post has run its course then you just cross it out on the list. simple.

It is easy and you can make a simple table in Word. Then print out a whole page of it. I do it all the time. You could even make an html form that you submit info to, that then saves into a list! (dunno how to do it yet)

my thoughts anyway...

I liked how there was a single section for all digital art.. nice and chaotic but it got out of hand sometimes. I like the new setup mostly because it divides it all into categories... you can filter out the stuff you're less interested in. Keep the gallery/WIP areas the way they are.. it seems to all be working just peachy.

I don't like two forums, but then I didn't like how fast threads were going before either. They're still going too fast though-how about some posting guidlines(as in what's an acceptable level of completion to post)? I find it impossible to even view, much less critique, half the images posted.

Collosimo: Even easier than that, I just come here and do a search on 'Flinthawk' (that's for me, so you put your own name in there, duh ) and search for posts in the last day(s) and I get all the subjects I've been following recently. It's super easy to keep up on what threads I've been into and if I have time after checking stuff in there I go back to the forums and start checking the white topics. Hope that helps anybody.

Big improvement, I think.

It's sometimes difficult to know how to handle the Gallery section, since while I might consider an image finished, people still critique (which is great) and I feel obliged to change the picture. But I tend to make a difference between the pictures I'm in the middle of and need advice on (go to WIP), and the ones I /feel/ finished with, (go to Gallery), even if I end up fixing up all the pictures.

I wouldn't want the Work in Progress, and the Gallery merged... I'm beginning to really like how things are now

Anyway, I ramble...
