As everyone says, and everyone probably knows, practice is really the only way to get better. And as some other threads have indicated, drawing from references is one of the best ways to do this. My question is, where can you find all sorts of photo references for people. Heads bodies etc. I'll say right off that I know drawing from life is better but I have absolutely no way to do that at the present time. I tried several searches for some kind of picture archives or something and all I came up with was a combination of useless crap and porn.

Hey. I usually do searches for various actresses and models. Since I find woman pleasing to look at, I don't mind staring at the picture for long periods of time to figure out what dynamics makes a human head look "right". Thats good for portraits anyway. If you want to look at full body poses, there are various figure drawing tutorials out there, and some good ones on anime sites. These tutorials are set up similar to flickstone's head tutorial, in that they explain proper ratio's and such.

You can also search for "fine art nude" sites, for various nude poses.

Well I like the background pics of all those chicks in bikini's etc. At 'home.phong.com'

you have to customise. Just click on customise and select the chicks skin and then voila. Everytime you goto 'home.phong.com' a random chick loads up in the background. Ver.. Very good. A few iffy? but the percentage are gooooooood.

of course it's for photo reference! so you got excuses for you girlfriend. Be careful though!

"Why dont you just use me?"

She'll say... and... then... disaster.

Get a stack of magazines and draw from those. It does not have to look like art to be able to draw from it. I like doing caricatures of important people I find in newsweek or time. Good practice.

Just like eating, having a wide range of subjects and styles is really important. I remember most of my students would just like to draw cars, and maybe from one angle only. I could never make them understand how they were hurting themselves. I like the compost metaphor. The best artists come out of rich soils, with a lot of influences.

Thanks for the replies, its pretty much what ive started doing i think. I've tried to start collecting magazines, but my parents keep throwing them away... its irritating. The problem with them is that they are either really old politician guys, or female supermodels. Well i guess that's not so bad, especially the supermodels. Caricatures are fun too, i usually do my teachers, luckily they havne't found out yet. Getting them off the internet would be a little more convenient, but its too bad there isn't space for anything besides porn these days.

Hi

The best working way for me is using the digetal camera and shoot a lot of poses self.
Often I know what I want and sketch the idea out first, while doing this I notice fast where I have a lack of information I take a friend to pose for me and I shoot from that angle what I need. This helped me a lot.
cheers
