what is more important in your style of art? make it look as realistic as possible? or trying to give your self a sense of being unique and have style over just rendering the same old everyday stuff.
hope i worded this correctly. i am trying to get some opinions on it. been buggin me.

No matter how hard you try, you'll never paint or draw absolutely realistically... thats pracatically impossible, not to mention you start to lose what arts all about. However, I think you should learn to render as well as possible before dipping into styles. I think you'll find that after mastering the basics, you can break the rules more correctly.. thusly giving you more powerful art. Take anime for instance.. very unique style... people here in the US seem to go freaking nuts over it (tho I dont quite understand why...). You think those artists just started out drawing big eyes and triangles for noses? Nah.. those foo's were trained traditionally, and took drawing realism to an absolute extreme. Now they just pop out simple looking anime characters like its some kind of joke or something!

I don't even think about it. I try to create an image that will give the ideas, impressions, or emotions I want to instill. If realism will help that, great. If leaving things more...elusive, then that's good too.

I'd say Pierre renders things pretty damn realistically. He fooled the majority of the people on this forum, an we're artists.
A lot of crappy artists hide in "modern art". You know what I mean. Throwing paint randomly on a canvas, leaving the whole thing blank, painting a black dot on the gallery floor under the painting. That's all crap. That said, photorealism isn't really the best way to convey an emotion. |

I'll answer you in a simple quote:
"dont worry about it. just draw the picture."
