Ok i am new here, and this seems like a nice place to have people help me improve other art forums i have been to dont help around much. so here goes

Ok first of all these two swords i have made from scratch with no referece. i didnt use any airbrushing , they were mainly done with the Marquee tool and filling it in and shading with some filters here and there.

What im looking for is comments on how to improve, i want to move away from filters and be able to do this but much better with airbrushing, dodge, burn...etc.

and here are the pics from order of newest to oldest (keep in mind i have done more than 2 photoshop pieces)

Strife sword : http://www.geocities.com/ron_tada/Strife.jpg

Dragon sword : http://www.geocities.com/ron_tada/sworddelta.jpg

[Mercatorn] I already like your attitude... I hate all those people whoes first post is with topics with words like [Newbie Here] [IMG newbie's FiRsT PiC crit!!] (actual Topic Subjects Here) I never read those posts. I like both swords but the Strife more [Wish I had one of those to attack my friends with] Except the handle on the Strife is too flat compared to the rest of the sword. The Dragon has nice colors, but the edges are not clean enough.

Welcome! Just to let you know, you really should seek crits on pieces like these in the Work in Progress forum. I'm a nice guy though, so I'll give you a couple pointers: I would suggest practice, and lots of it. You seem to be off to a very good start, but a little practice never hurt anyone. Search the forum archives for digital art tutorials, and head to www.3dpalette.org for more help. And unless your name is Jussi, be very sparing in your use of dodge and burn.

thank you for your responses and for the site. ill keep practicing but i am hoping to be able to do human characters too but i have never tried it before, mostly metalic or hard plastic objects

this is a candle i made, pure photoshop no reference, it was made after strife sword but before dragon one also, and i have never tried having backgrounds in my pictures but that might change...

I prefer the dragon sword, mainly because of the more original design and the extremely cool handle.
Would be easy to hurt yourself on that though.
And, next time, post this in the gallery and read the forum descriptions before posting.

all the best,
