i have quite a collection of paintings/signed lithographs and some fine art that i need to get appraised and i'm not quite sure where to look to find the actual value of some of it ... does anybody know of a site or somewhere that i may be able to get this information? i need to know what some of this stuff is worth pretty badly... thanks!

My uncle used to deal in fine art a bit, and I remember him sending a bunch of stuff to some appraisers in Chicago and New York. I guess it really depends on what price range you think these works are in. But one thing to keep in mind is that the value a painting is appraised for is very rarely the value you can sell it for. So if it's for insurance purposes, that's fine. If you're planning on selling the stuff, it'll only go for about 2/3 of the price it was appraised for at most. And if it's really good stuff, expect to spend at least a few months finding a buyer. As an example, my uncle had a Rembrandt Peale (early american artist) painting. It's been appraised for over $300,000, but we've been looking for a buyer for a few years now.

um.. i have an original cheret ... a tamaio (i think thats how you spell it.. the piece is named Perro) ... they don't even allow his work into the united states anymore.... a few caulders, some dali's... some nagel's... and some others... thanks for your reply tho...
