Hello, everyone. I have a question I was hoping you tablet people would be so kind to answer for me.
I am quite fond of my pencils, and very good at using the mouse (see the finished pics forum), but am looking into a Wacom Tablet to get rid of my mouse and use my hand skills again. I was thinking of the 12 x 12, for I don't need the 4d mouse, just the pen, and for the same price, I don't have a 4d mouse, and more space than the 9 x 12.
It looks like a decent deal all around, but I've been reading on the forums that actual users are having some ugly complaints. Should I get the Wacom? Is it really better? Or should I stay with what I have?
Please give me your opinions. Thanks so much! |

I chose the 9x12, because it came with the 4d mouse; not only that, but the 9x12 is the same ratio as the computer screen (3/4) -- I also have done all my traditional art on 9x12 paper, so it makes the Intuos 9x12 all that more comfortable. In my opinion, the 9x12 is HUGE. Seriously. It's huge. I have to put it partially on my lap, and partially on my desk it's so huge...There's absolutely enough drawing space, no question; You can get free "from the shoulder" strokes, and it feels very natural.

Thank you, Visigoth, for answering my querry. I agree it probably is big enough, but a good deal of my formats are vertical. Can the tablet be turned, or do I have to trace my sketch horizontal and rotate it in photoshop? That's why I was considering the 12 x 12. I wouldn't have to worry about such things. And is the 4d mouse really useful for someone who might consider modeling in the far future, but really just wants to use photoshop and painter right now? If I don't use it, isn't the larger 12 x 12 that doesn't come with the mouse more of a deal?
And aren't there any other people who would be kind enough to tell me whether or not a Wacom is worth the expense? Is the darn thing nothing but frustration, or can it actually be useful to us hand-skilled artists?
Please respond. It's a pretty big investment, and I don't want to go into it without the facts.
Thanks. |
