OK heres the cituation. In max 3 originally when I whould run the cursor over the transformation gizmo the X,Y,Z axis would light up as the cursor touched them so that I could move along that axis if I wanted. now that doesnt seem to be happening what do I do to get that option back. does this make sense? any help would be great |

You might've accidentally hit 'x' to turn it off. Just press it again like Frost said. If that's no longer the hotkey for it then just go to Preferences/Viewport and then look in the bottom left hand corner and you'll fidn a check box to turn Transform Gizmo on and adjust the length of the axis.
