Dakkan, I have a linux box with Gimp. I've used it a little. The thing is that Gimp is almost exactly like Photoshop while at the same time being nothing like Photoshop.

What I mean is that it can do pretty much the same things, and with some experience you can get great results, but it is not very intuitive. Some of the interface seems to me to be a bit off. Perhaps that's just from using Photoshop too much.

I never had any luck using my tablet on the linux box though. I dunno if it was the drivers or the hardware, or what.

Great thing is that both Linux and Gimp are free, so it's hard to argue with that.

Just my experiences.

gimp is a exact clone of photoshop 4.

that's the funny bit, i haven't been able to figure out how it's slow and irritating to work with gimp. it's clumsy.

codexier, envy me, i managed to get my penpartner work with red hate 6.2.

it lasted for one day, then it blew up.

pressure sensitivity didn't work, of course.

nor did the buttons. or the eraser. or gimp.

but it worked for a little bit.

i remember somebody did a idiot proof thingamajic for x/wacom. can't remember where in the 'net the site is though.

Ok, here are some resources you can check out.
- I hear this Wacom XInput driver for XF86 is pretty good. Best for Intuos, I think.
- A bit more on Intuos...
- And if you have a USB Graphire, this page should be great. This is the driver that finally worked for me. Awesome.
- Oh yeah, and make sure you have USB support working, and wacom.o and evdev.o built into the kernel or as modules.
- And here's a page on using tablets with Gimp. Don't use the driver/config info here, it's outdated. But there's some other helpful stuff.

Good luck... you'll need it.
