Holy smokes! Nice image. I love all that I've seen from you so far.
I like this image, though I think the mech should be more reflective in places. Nifty graphic. Looking forward to more ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

looks nice!
Only thought would be back off on those blacks in the BG a little. Keep the mech dark, but what is behind it 3% brighter. |

Right now I'm studying at highschool (swedish Gymnasium), but after that I may start working as a Graphic Artist for a company that wants me, called Liquid media.

You know what my favorite part about this image is? That ladder in the back... it's perfect in every little way. It's so sharp it almost jumps off the page.
Not that everything else in the image doesn't look badass.
Good work! =)

Wow, nice work you've got here. And you say this only took a couple hours? I love the details going on in this pic like the panel that the guy on the right is working on and the texture of the mech itself. Like Jezebel said, that ladder rocks...it looks so right.
I don't have any critiques for this but you did mention that you'd like to bring out the engineers more. For that I'd either change their colors to something a bit brighter or add some bright details like white stripes or patches to their unifrom to define their forms better. Maybe change the hair color on some of them, too.
Great work man, keep 'em coming!

Nothing wrong with black, in general, although "painterly" types like to stay away from it, preferring to go with a very dark saturated color instead.
It is just a convention of industrial rendering, a cheap and very effective way of keeping your depths organized.
oh here..
I don't think this helped much, but what I did was take out some of the contrast in the bg to make it stay back there a little more.
This is not always desirable, depending on what you are after, but with straightforward naturalism like this it is basic. I tried to keep the blacks under the platform in the foreground, and removed them from behind the mech.
Sometimes you might want a maximum contrast between a foreground object and BG, to create some attention and drama, but realize that in this kind of situation it brings the BG forward.
I have huge gamma problems working on a mac and posting in a PC world, so forget subtlety, which is what this requires.
edit- see, it went black anyway.
NEVERMIND I never posted this:/

Man I have a long way to go. I think I get what you are talking about Spooge. I may have to read it and disect it a couple of times to make sure. Im getting there though.
This is a truly wonderfull pick. Man-o-Man. All I can say is keep going on cleaning up some of the lines down toward the bottum of the pic.(making them a bit sharper is what I mean ) I also think that the bright lights at the top could be a little smoother. Details details. Your good, real good.
I think I should go back to my desk and start drawing somemore.

the backlights probly do make it look better. It is a class piece Captn.Flash, I can't beleieve you still in school man. One thing I thought could look better was the mech and some of the bg stuff look abit too soft.

Captain : That is a very good picture! You just popped out of nowhere and demonstrate an enormous ammount of skill and patience. Another round of Capt.Flushgordon, hold the EviLToYLet ! Very good design and illustration. But, some perspective issues figure, like the metal bridge that is comming near us, one line is not drawn in the right direction. Here is what I am talking about:

Good lord, this is simply stunning. The level of detail and believability of this is just incredible. I'm truly impressed with this work.
I'm amazed this fellow hasn't popped up before now, and I'm sure that he'll get snatched up right quick by the gaming community. |

Holy Crap!! You all saw it!! mr craig mullins himself actually painted on my pic! I'l never wash my hands again hhihihi...
and yes, the bars are a bit corny, I wanted the perspective to be more, how shall I say this, kinda fish eye style?
Dahm, I've learned alot from all of you guys, your crits are very helpful!
Thank you very very much! Well, gotta go paint some more hahahaaa

Bah i've missed the party!
Okei, this pic really strikes my eyes (like another one with the city). I saw Mechwarrior4 intro movie so your pic looks kinda addon shot. Great addon shot. The only thing i can crit is weapon. Where is weapon? Do you think this 20mm gun can really strikes mechas?! Nah. Also these bullet holes looks nice and adds some 'mood' but seems like a dude with AK47 or sniper rifle can asy hit the pilot...
Anyway great sample man - u're now new rising forum star and yes, we need work harder now.
btw, addenum to the 'black' discussion:
Where is no clean black color in real life. Black = no light, no any color.

Ok that's it. I just noticed the "tre kronor" painted on the side of the mech.
Painting my own mech already, thanks for the inspiration. :)
And please, do wash your hands no matter what happened here today.

man, Gecko has painted the mech that ruined my recon mech! By the way, I did'nt want to give this one any weapons, exept for that little cannon...I love aviation, and If you look at recon aircrafts, they never carry weapons, just chaff and flares, and maybe a cannon? hehe,
I tried to fix the picture like craig mullins did, but all I could do was this!

personally, i try to stay away from black, since it doesn't occur in nature, and subconciously, the mind knows that. so if you include perfect black into a piece that's supposedly 'real', the effect is ruined.
but there's exceptions to every rule. :P
and remember, if you ARE going to use lots of black, you need to understand white-space. i'd explain it in more detail, but i hardly understand it myself, it just works.

Great work Captn.FlushGarden!
Really luuuv the design of that mech. And the lightning!
But I think you should edit the post where you say that the Swedish gymnasium is equal to highschool. Since it's not. It's equal to collage. You just made everyone belive you where about 14-15 yrs old . But you're not, 17-18 yrs old more likley, right?
If you ask me, that would make you WERY talanted indeed. On the other side, they say that Picasso was an fully developed artist (if one can ever be that) when he was 15 (or was it 14) years old.

aw shit..
another 19 year old who not only kicks my ass. But is about 20 years better than me..
Im only 20 though.
Tis good Flush. I like it alot. Now I know if I have a son or daughter and want them to be good artists I will have to move to Sweden. All you Sweden people Kick Ass.
Ok I am having a problem with only one thing.
Is the door at the end of the ladder a bit small for those guys. I know they are closer but they are not that much closer. Maybe Im just up to late 4:20am. Well looking forward to seeing more man.

I love this pic, i think the guy on the left is huge compared to the other guys... to have them stand out maybe they should be wearing some special brightly colored vest or something... something like what the guys on an aircraft carrier would wear. |
