[edit: Forgot to mention that this was inspired by mr. wonton's recent underwater scene. Thanks wonton!]

the thing i like about it is that it does not look like space, but more like a underground cavern of sorts. the drawing is pretty coarse but i like the idea and the tones.

For me, I'd like to see more of the earh/planet formation in the water. Seems kind of to dull down toward the bottom of the image.
The ship in the upper left corner has something bug'n me about it. But I'm not good enough to tell you what.
More usless posts are on the way! WOOT!
I dig the image though, needs more depth or something in my eyes.
Bi-bi!

Yeah, it's actually supposed to be more of an underwater scene... I have never painted anything like this so I'm having a little trouble.
Any suggestions for making it look more water like?

[edit: I'm also trying to make the caverns look more like caverns... right now they look so weird. Almost everyone I have shown this to thinks it's a space picture, hehe. Help! ]

I tried to fix up one side to make it look more "cavernous"... does this look better or worse? Personally I don't think it looks much like a cavern at all.
I don't know if I can really figure out how to do this without some help :/
Hopefully when I get up tomorrow, this won't be on the second page, hehehe.

I think that to make it more like an underwater cavern, you should either draw the actual OPENING of it, and make it water-like, or, if they are already deep in it, draw the edges of the cavern...
think as if they are in a whale, only it's a cavern..
Try to give the feeling like something huge surrounds them...
IMHO
Hmm...after wathcing the update - i have an idea... it seems like they just enetered the cavern, from two entrances (thus the two light sources)... so make the area between them more HARD and draw it as if it's the point where the cavern splits to two...
And for the rest of the cavern, just have it SURROUND everything...
hmm... i hope you get what i'm trying to say... Also the cavern itself should look more like real stone, so try to make it less blurry... add some sharp cavern-lines
In my humble opinon...

I can't draw!

Jezebel, the change helps exaggerate the fact that its a cavern, but, for me it over-exaggerates. I was actually very happy with the first rendition. The mood, and the sense of foreboding . . . there is a time element there because it seems that they are in a one way tunnel, and this one bend which will reveal the source of the light is what speaks to me. Adding another tunnel and another source not only ruins this (for me) but also makes it too busy.
One thing that might make people interpret the original as a space scene is the light emitted from the (engines?) of your crafts. Current underwater crafts dont emit light from here so this makes people thing space. But on the topic of those lights, whatever they are, something doesn't add up for me. I just realised what it is . . . I've always looked at the crafts and thought they were going towards the light, not coming from it. Which way are they going? If coming, those things on the front are infact their lights, lol. If they're going to the light, then the angle of light coming from the rear mounted propulsion should be parallel their direction/orientation . . .
Hmm . . . are they coming or going?

*giggles*
Man, I must have done an awful job with this pic because nobody can tell what the heck is going on! Hehehe, that's ok though... it's was experimental
Ok... they aren't emitting light from an engine. I created it as though they were perhaps some other race or species coming from these strange places in the ocean that we've never seen (the lights)... the lights on the ships are more like search lights. They are exploring the new environment around them as they venture out. Hence the name, Exploration
Starseed, I don't like how the caverns in the second one look at all... but I'm not really sure how to make them more cavern like. Hmmm...
I dunno :/

I can tell what's going on. Just everyone else...may not be so intellectual. Hehe just kidding. Anyway, One thing you must ask yourself first, is water actually black? And second of all, since the propellors are turning on these exploration craft t here should be bubbles as well. Perhaps add a few schools of fish here and there. But none the less, think the pictures' really getting there. I remember these was a picture of a submaring with a school of fishes underwater, you might want to check that post out. Good luck though!
