hey you all, i have a philosophical somewhat question to ask, What exactly is art?> What is the nature of it? What is your opinion on the aesthetics of art?

What does ART mean to you?

(strange how all of us claim to do art but have no idea what art is. It's a more intimate question that concerns us than we think it is. Not trying to be a snob here.) I'm examining the question myself. Hell... been examining it for a year and still going.

Perhaps the question does not lie in what is art, what is not. But rather in how different forms of art connect.

Trying to piece the puzzle.

Real Art is the technique and knowledge of design combined with the emotions and meaning of its creator.

However, "Art" these days is just about anything you can get away with (to quote another forumgoer).

According to some people in this world, if I crap on a plate it's art.

However in my opinion that's not art. Art is expressing yourself in a way that you can improve upon. I'm pretty sure I can't improve crapping on a plate (although maybe I'd get a little closer to dead center after a few tries).

Oh yeah by the way here's some art for you. This thread is in the wrong fucking forum. I'm sure I can improve on that expression if need be again.

Try posting it in the other one.

no. you have to think about this in a cultural and phycological ..mmm cut the crap..do you think that our view of art is based on our cultural upbringing. for exzample.. if you where brung up being taut that ..say brown and pink whent 2gether and were visualy appeling. do you think that they would think that ..say blue and yellow.. would look ugly.. just becasue they been taut all there lives that it would look gross?

or do you think that its deeper instinct that chosies that colors ?

[edit] fuck that sorry it made no sence and wasent even relevent[/edit]

My interpretation of art is defacating in small little jars and placing a candle in each one. After all art comes from whithin yourself.

i think that marcel duchamp pretty muched proved that art is an intangible and flexible object.
He turned a urinal upside down and left it sitting on the streets and labeled it fountain.
That is art. Because he said so.

asking what art is is like asking what love is.

well said! Duchamp also painted a moustache on the Mona Lisa, titled it with a french pun, and put it in an art show. Now it's a cornerstone of art, and worth a lot of money. Let that be an inspiration to all you photomanipulators out there.
