Looking reall good so far Sporq, i like the clear contrast of shadow in the sikin tone..
The emotion in face tells a story itself, and nice job on the creases and folds in the pants and the light source is consistent.. I am not sure if the lighting would hit the muscles like that exactly though..
I like the axe, only thing is, that its too easy to tell that you used the gradient tool.. try to do it yourself, so your style of painting stays consistent throughout the whole picture, know what im saying?
looks good so...
Whoa.. i just noticed it looks like there is a hand coming from behind the guys head.. I didn't even notice that till really lookin at.. You should really finish this.. And if what i see in the Bg is what i think it is.. It will be an even better pic..
so.. finish it!!!!! |

I have to agree on the use of a gradient on the axe...It's too obvious. I really like the detail in the guy though. I know you did this on purpose, But to me it still looks like he doesn't have a right arm. I know it's behind his back though. just seems like a bit of a weird pose. I would finish it though indeed.... (Ah now I know...It looks like he's scratching his butt!)

the proportions on the arm are off. it looks too muscular in comparison to the rest of his body. the legs of the character look the best out of everything. i like them and the boots a lot.
the other thing is, the axe looks funny because you're viewing it from straight on, while everything else is in a top-down perspective. i think you're trying to have the axe tilted on the character's shoulder, but the perspective looks kind of... contrived. seeing the axe straight on is just a bit too perfect.

cool, thanks for the replies. now that you guys mention them, i see the errors. the axe was hastily added so i can see why it would look out of place. i'll try rotating it a bit and losing the gradient. i actually wanted him to seem muscular, but with a pot belly, but im not sure how to do that. maybe ill add more definition to the chest, and tone down the arms a bit. i also need to refine the background. but, you guys did convince me to finish it, so i will.
and he is not scratching his butt!!! (although it does look like that now that you mention it)
