Faust
[edit]
Actually, Dhabih, what was the decision taken on the forum split? I'm thinking that there are a lot of people showing up here that like to do desktop images with noise and photo-manipulations as such, and I know there are a LOT of people out there that like to do such things, perhaps they could have a place of their own, thos who specialize in such art, which has nothing to do with painting, but more with design, such as the web design people. Personally, I get slightly dissapointed each time I open up a thread expecting to see someone's efforts in drawing/painting, and end up seeing layering experiments in photoshop. Sure, we could just close the thread and forget about it and not comment, but many of us painters have found this to be our home for a long time, and we are slowly losing our place to such artists,... I'm starting to feel less at home here, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, and it's important to have this feeling of attachment to this forum for it's quality and lifespan.
I hope I don't sound like an elitist person, and both groups of people deserve their place, but they clearly don't mix. I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking this, as I don't think Craig, Fred, Feng, Francis, Loki, Vebjorn, Mikael, Joachim, Gecko, Midnight, etc feel like critiquing or even viewing this type of art... I don't. There are lots of places on the web for this sort of stuff, I don't think this is one of them.
[edit 2]
I do NOT want this to get into a flame war, I think we need to respect both types of art, but put them apart.

This type of reasoning amazes me. IMO, if you are an artist, you appreciate other peoples art, whatever the medium.
If someone is taking the time to be creative, I salute them, even if I don't practice their particular brand of art.
You can start your own forum you know. But this same "problem" will pop up again. Things change. I see this as a good thing. I'm glad I get to see something other than scantily clad Amazonian women with elephant guns and the like. I like and learn from the fact that I don't see the same thing all the time.
You claim you don't want to sound like an elitist, but your post clearly contradicts that. The title of the forum is DIGITAL ART, which I figure encompasses anything made on a computer.
As far as I know, only Faust and Split are posting this type of art. You make it sound like an epidemic. Grow up.

Splitsoul, I think your pic should have more contrast, if you turn it to grayscale it's very messy, and if you are adding words you should make them more readable.
As long as it's art and digital it can be here. The problem is art is very subjectif. |

I find this kind of art to be boring and uninteresting. I might be a little more talerent if the images weren't so fuckin' big. I agree with frost. It should have it's own forum, which splitsoul probably doesn't want because he knows no one will go there to look at his pile of dogshit with filters ran over it.

I dont like the fact that it looks so drastically interpolated though. Like you upscaled the whole pic by 300%.

LOOK, there's a very simple solution to this. Do not click on any threads that was created by SplitSoul.
You don't have to like it.. heck, you don't even have to waste time in your life telling us you don't like it. But some people do consider this art, like myself. I like both traditional, and nontraditional.
Art is in the eye beholder.
Okay `nough rantin for now..

Good sir, where do you see filters in this image? I'd like to know, because I didn't use any.
And you guys are right, I should post thumbnails instead, but I was in a hurry. I'll do it next time I post something.
And Faust is very cute.

i never post thumbnails, why should you?
anyone remember the drawing (which is in my opinion the "best" thing i've really drawn.. and one of the few) i posted some time ago that both crashed peoples' net browsers, was about 3.5 megs in jpeg, and also erupted propably the worst flame/mock war in the history of this forum? :)

Ok, Frost. Here's the obvious, simple solution. Dhabih shouldn't call this forum a digital art forum. He should call it a digital painting forum.... something less all-encompassing. Since it evidently bothers you that this got posted, email Dhabih and have him change it like above. That way, it would be off-topic and no one would post similar art. Right? Ok then. Not a huge deal. |

I quite agree with all the people who said that looked like crap. I already had the same discussion elsewhere on this forum about people who think that 5 filters, a little rust texture and a random word like 'oblivion', 'madness', 'fancy pants', make their image cool.... hmmm
Isn't it galen?
BTW what is this fixation you have with nazis and gestapo? Are you german?
Does being honest with other people makes you a facist? interesting concept.... not!
So yeah let's create a special forum called something like 'teen angst photo collage' and let's get back to something worth checking ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

I don't get it. Its the post of say 2 or 3 people who post this type of ART. And you all go overboard with it. Make it a 'teen angst forum'? wtf are you tryin to be funny?? like i said, you have the choice to ignore the entire thread.. it wont even be a fickle in your fingernail..

from now on, people should put the type of picture in the title, like the newbies have been doing with [crit][img][help plz]
so like, thread title could be "filtered dogpoop" or "amazon with spear and gun" |

I guess I'll agree completely with Frost here. Photo-manipulation should have it's won forum, whereas painted stuff goes here, and photo manip go anywhere but here.
How do you want people to comment on an abstract piece of layered pictures? "Oh, go on and make layer 5 a bit more blue and add Filter X with Y and Z settings. Yeah, that'll give it that 'feeling'. You know." There aren't any brushstrokes, not anything hand drawn, no delicate technique required, besides trial and error "Ok, this looks bad. Looks bad. Looks good! There we go." Everything photo-manipulated ends up looking like rusty metal.
Even if this is a "Digital Art" forum, and if photo-manipulation is "digital", and a composition of elements decided by one so-called artist, that it's art, then it qualifies as "digital art". Sure! Why didn't I think of that??
OH! I know! BECAUSE IT REALLY SUCKS! Yes, Splitsoul, I REALLY DON'T LIKE IT! You want my opinion? I looked at it and this nausia gut feeling came in my stomach. There you have it. How will you realize you are taking the wrong path in your digital art "career" unless someone tells you this? Sorry for being rude.. oh wait, no I'm not sorry, I mean every word of it.
I know this may not seem very polite, but it seems that noone will ever react to the overwhelming number of newbie and useless posts that have been written lately. Like Frost, it saddens me to see such a great world fall apart like it is. But, I guess we can say this about everything in life. The more accessible something gets, the more it sucks. You cannot deny this! I'll give you mathematical proof of this if you want:
Greatness is somewhat static. It doesn't grow or shrink, it just spreads. It can come from several places. You need a certain degree of intellect to handle the greatness. So, let's say you have an X amount of greatness in one region, this digital art board. At first, a Y population of users was on it, all of them which rule to a certain Z level. So each user has X/Y*Z greatness. So if you raise Y exponentially, and also lower Z because, obviously, the average Z for the average user is low, then X reduces a great deal! But what's stopping that from happening?
Dhabih of course won't do anything, because he is frightful of the overwhelming number of emails he might get from people he'd kick-ban off this board. It's easier to take away someone's liberty than his equality. It's like, if we would legalize slavery again, people would say "NO!!!!!!!!" but, not because slavery is "bad" or "evil", but because there's a chance that THEY would become the slaves. Finding solutions to this problem is also almost unthinkable. Like, installing a New Member Application form where users have to show what they draw and WHY they draw and then a jury of elite members who have proven themselves to be the best judges say YES or NO if the user can submit messages and start new threads. But, that won't happen, because the elite members will not want to say they are elite, in fear of the overwhelming number of "average" people come bashing in on them, saying "Hey, it's unfair! We live in a equal society, where the rights of ones match the rights of others!"
And so goes the decadence of all humanity
So my solution would be split the board in two, where paintings in one forum, and photo manipulated stuff in another, and 3D in another. Hopefully, this will settle things for a good while. It's sad to see art separated, because art rules, but it HAS to be separated, because it is oh so different in some aspects.
3D art, handdrawn art.
Good art, bad art.
It's all the same.
May I die with honor, my lord! |
