Eaze, watch it with statements like that. The old masters of art might climb out of their graves to brutally murder you for blasphemy.

lol ya .. true i think this kind of logo type stuff is art.. shit i think if u mold a big pair of tits out of mashed potatoes its art.. 2 me art is just taking something and being creative with it.. if its a blank paper and a pencil. canvas and paint.. or a wacom and so forth.. i make logos and mix hand drawn things with filters.. who is to say that is not art.. ? ive shown alot plp this forum that do art the old dirty hands on way.. they seem to think digital art is not "real" art.. but there full of crap..
its all art man.. well ok maybe not all of it.. |

Something is only art when it invokes true emotion in a person. Can you honestly say your heart melted with pure feeling when you looked at that?
I know my heart does when i spot a Dave Mckean cover in a store.

hahaha well spitfire you just dont understand the art :-P hehe. umm yeah its funny how ppl seemed to like the first one more. i did it really quick and rough.
where as with the second on i was trying to create some emothional responce. it obviously didnt work. even i can see the sacond one is not nearly as tight as the first.
mmm and by the way it is art. if its not art what is it ?

Nice definition. This is art after all.
Now if you like it, or you don't (or think it's just a doodle), is entirely subjective. I find it's best not to discourage people even if you don't like something.
I like some parts, but it could use some more work, some more depth to it.

I really like most of the first one, but the arrows kind of ruin it.
The second one... ahh, well, it's not my cup of tea, frankly.
And Spitfire, why are you trying to start a flame war (and mostly succeed in doing so) every time you see a photo-manip. piece? It's getting tiring, buddy. Just stop it and ignore the thread.

so by the definition that you photo manip guys give, this too is art right?
"no offence", but that's bullshit. it's just 3 photos of my office laid on top of each other, with a little bit of blur and brightness/contrast adjusting. what's "art" about that, tell me?
[edit, damn i forgot some typography from it like ://[____.design|///> or whatever from it]

the only thing that matters with art is that the artist has tried to convey a meaning or feeling, thats why I don't understand photorealism.
Some people "get" art some don't, doesn't mean that it isn't art.
Faustgfx, your office speaks to me like no woman ever has, the sheer poetry of the desks and window blinds is enhanced by your portrayal, its a bit blue though.

Concidering art is expression, you could shit on a platter and say "ART!"
But that doesent mean all art looks good

One thing I've realised recently is that art is a form of expression, sort of a language. It's another attempt at communicating messages, emotions or anything we feel at all. Like the spoken language, body language, etc it's not perfect but is a step closer to making another person comprehend what you're saying (this relates to any piece, political messages or just romantic, etc.)
I've also reasoned that this is not the only definition for art - it can be what simply invokes emotion for the sake of emotion. Whether this is negative, like anger or frustration, or positive, like happiness or joy, it still is art. Controversial pieces seem to be what contemporary pieces are about (see that woman with her actual bedroom submitted as her piece, or the "oak tree" in the tate modern; a glass of water on a shelf) but because they invoke emotion it's still considered art (although I personally have my doubts of whether they should be honoured so...) because people are shocked by them.
Traditionally my view of art is the attempt to visually depict what is seen in my mind's eye through any medium, realism is only appropriate when trying to create the illusion of reality. Digital Art doesn't really contradict this so hey whatever floats your boat.
I'm sure not everyone (or possibly anyone) would agree on these definitions anyway, but I'd like to hear views.
