Hi I'm new. (okay now that that's outta the way)
I was wondering if anyone here buys the Heavy Metal magazine. I buy it mainly because it's the only mag that publishes European comics but I've been getting into drawing and digital painting (for a while now) and was wondering if Heavy Metal was an inspiration for anyone.
Cheers

i grew up reading heavy metal as a child. i think the art, the writing, and the content was very influential to my aesthetic today.

i still have the dream of having something featured in there, and one day, i believe i will.

i just gotta keep working on it.

I love HM. Some issues aren't so good, but generally the magazine kicks ass.

I used to buy Heavy Metal occasionally. I always look for the opened one (not in the sealed bag, I mean) at the magazine rack, and look through it before buying it. Some issues don't have anything worth looking at in them. Others are really good.

Zorglub: I still buy them at times, just to look at the images, flipping through them... some are good, some are just plain boring. As far as inspiration goes, it really depends, I personally haven't gotten much out of the way of inspiration from Heavy Metal mag... I'm mostly into seeing some cool artist's works like Bisley and all.

I think there are alot of crap in heavy metal. There are some good stuff there once in a while, though like Juan Gimenez.

Cool! I appreciate everyone's answers. Sometimes the comic books published are those of amateurs and maybe that's why they suck. If I could find a place to buy European comic books I probably wouldn't buy Heavy Metal. I grew up in europe and on those kinds of comic books so it's very hard to let go btw I will post some of my work soon (after boxing day, when I get my wacom )
Cheers

HM is really nice to discover new artists if you don't want to spend 500 $ a week in hardcover comics. I love that stuff. My fav so far is "Angel" but I can't find my issue to give a reference...
Btw, I saw the model sheets for the HeavyMetal second animated movie and boy oh boy that's twisted !

Zorglub, why is you name SO familiar ?!? Why does my memory keeps whispering "Dicte Magique" ?!? Am I insane ?
I also mostly grew up in europe. Where are you now ?

-now sobered up ege

egerie: Zorglub is the name of a villain character from a French comic book called Spirou et Fantasio. It's actually pretty well known over there but it's never been translated to english. I'm originally from Europe as well (former Yugoslavia) so I used to read French comic books translated in yugoslavian. Right now I live in Torotno (hey we're countrymen ). Now I'm trying to learn french so I could buy a few euro comic books online .
Cheers
