i have read some posts lately and there are sadly some members that have a attitude problem.i wont mention any names,i dont think i have too, generally please have some manners when you reply to a post..if you dont like somebodys postings give some constructive crit,if you dont feel up to it,dont make a reply especially not a reply attacking somebody personal, please take this forum seriuosly and keep your wars to your personal email adresses.theres nothing more uncreative and motivationkilling than looking at people that cant do anything else than throwing garbage at each other...if thats what we want..we could turn on the goddamn TV and watch the Jerry Springer Show!

Hi Sven.
you are here since December right?
do you really think its a good idea to come in as a newbie to a forum and tell all the others right away to behave?
maybe you're right with that after all, I just think you should stick with it a bit longer because its not like that all the time.
happy xmas anyway |

Yeah happy X-mas from me too! As for behaviour on this forum...I know what you mean. But it's all up to Dhabih. He's the moderator. You can't expect people to behave. That would be too easy. Some people just don't know how to behave. And that's a simple little fact. But there should be some freedom in what you can or can't say though. I just try not to say wtf too much or stuff like that. But I think I'm succeeding nicely. I think there should be a security feature so you can't say words like f**k etc. There are also younger people visiting this forum. Or older and more conservative people. I also use those words when I'm pissed off at something. And it's not even my language. But indeed...try to remember that other people want to read the posts too. And they may not appreciate your choice of words. That is all

You have 12 posts.
I have 1308.
That makes me right by default.

Yeah, I think you're right some people just freak out sometimes. And the thing that really scares me. More and more often it is the newbies who freak out about the newbies.
LOL
Most of the old ones behave themselves.
Yeah, except Shizo But he's kind of weird old russian. Don't mind him. He has winter all year. I would get pissed too. |

Well I'm no 'veteran' but when I started coming here a few weeks ago I thought this would be THE best place to post art, get constructive crits, learn from the masters and generally have a place to expose my art.
In a matter of days I found out, much to my suprise and dissapointment, that such things are a rarity on this board, and meaningless rantings/topics like "my dog has blue eyes", "what I ate for lunch" and "yadayada is (not) art" are far too too common here for me to take it seriously enough to post my art on a regular basis (and expect REAL critisism instead of praises or flames).
It will either be:
a) totally ignored, regardless of 'artistic value'
b) flamed 'till eternity for no apparent reason what-so-ever
c) changed into a "like/dislike" thread (manga/realism)
d) Senseless comments
e) any combination of the above
Usually the crits aren't very helpfull either, if given at all. 'Well known artists' like Spooge are immediatly praised regardless of what he does and personal likes (they say he's good, say I beter say so too), and the same applies to the opposite. If a 'newbie' posts his manga'ish sketch, it's not 'generally considered as art' and therefor shut down as 'crap' and of course, no crits or helpfull hints.
Also, on the topic of 'Filtering art', which is like every (digital) artform, very ambigious, is shut down by many ppl for various reasons: Usually.. It's WAY (WAY) too obvious it's JUST a photo, 10 layers of filters (with little to no handwork, default settings) on top, and a bunch of crappy bevels, and whatnot.
A photo with a cracklure filter on top should not be considered art, but can be nice to look at nevertheless. But art with filters can be handwork too, smart uses of layering screen, multiply & overlay effects can create amazing results, the points is, usually these 'artist' don't really KNOW the tools they are working with, and just screw around untill it starts looking nice. And it often ends up as 'yet another Marilon Manson'ish I wanna die'-ish CD cover.
When you can say your result is what you had in mind from the start (even if it is just 'rusted metal') then I think you can call that art, regardless of the tools you used. (And of course, again, it should never be obvious to anyone that you just did "this 'n that" simple thing to make it look nice.)
Basicly I'm just VERY dissapointed, I expected a more 'mature' audience on an Art forum like this one, but all I see is cursing, ranting... Reminds me too much of a "teeniebopperchatroom".
I will post some art form time to time if I think I need some help/crits (and hopefully get them too), but will not expect any real 'help' from this forum and it's members.
No offense to anyone who thinks this does not apply to them, and I'm sorry for the few mistakes in grammer and such I may have made, I just wrote this as it came out. Again, keyword for me and this forum is: DISSAPOINTMENT!

I think it up to us members to make the standard,Dhabib he can tell us what etiquette to use at his forum, he can ban us probaly, but it take like 2 minutes to make a new username so..... ultimately its up to us.

@Shizo: Um... dunno where dumpster is located. But ok. If you say it isn't in russia I'll believe you. What else can I do? Moscow isn't really at the german boarder, but weather is kinda shitty here too. I guess that's why I post nonsense like this. Oh, and BTW: I like your style. Your the only cool russian I know. ...er...you're the only one I know just predjudices as usual.
@Freddio: Yeah... u're right. I dunno how long they have been lurking. But that comment was more a general thing, I mentioned through the last days than related to demigodfromdisney. I excuse for beeing wrong
@all other: Yeah, I agree that it is strange and illogically that there are more people here and for some strange reason less constructive posts. As I said before.
But still this is the best place to get critiques from. Who should I ask instead? My mum? The people here have that kind of humor I like too. They seem to be quite intelligent. And that's what I like. Most of the time they act intelligent.
I mean internet is anarchy. There are no rules. And for anarchy it works quite good. Faker are flamed, art gets appreciation, there are discussions bout what art is and afterwards there may also be appreciation for layers on photos after it has been discussed enough.
And bout those flame wars. There are always some on each side. And there are also those adult like members who try to calm everyone down. It works. That's the new system! Anarchy rules
Sorry for the mistakes and for missunderstandings. Questions? Ask me. I will look in my english-books and tell you in a better way. -Thanks for your attention-

hehe whatever ...I don't mind too much that's going on here. And yeah maybe some people are funny and smart...blah...But that's just a matter of taste. best thing might be not to let it get to you and not reply to those people if all you can reply with are useless defensive arguments or whatever. I'm just friendly to whomever is friendly to me. And I'll ignore the individuals that are not. Although I have to agree with DRX. No matter how bad you are at what you do...Does that mean you have to be kept at that lvl because people just like to flame you rather than giving you constructive critisism? I can understand that people like Spooge for instance don't have the time nor the interrest to really help someone at our lvl. And what could he help me with anyway? he's way out there. But (I'm sorry...but not really though) some of you still suck at what you do. really really bad. hehe And still you like to criticise instead of trying to develop some appreciation for the effort someone has made. I also thought just like DRX that we could get more help here. I posted a few drawings awhile ago. And yes I did get some very helpfull hints (thank you so much) But other people were just plain rude and offensive. My question is..Why don't you just shut up if all you can do is take me down. I'll ask next time I want to be offended. it's k. As long as you give some helpfull hints aswell. And not try to make me feel like a prick and make me want to throw in the towel. It's not so hard to act social. Atleast pretend to be civilised. It really sucks to go online...see that you have replies. And someone just posted a reply with a crappy picture showing what I should study. Well I was asking what I was doing wrong. I could clearly see a head and legs and arms and whatever else is needed. So I got that part down already. it wasn't any help. that's my point. if you feel like a loser don't try to feel better by taking someone else down. And if you think you're not a loser....well you are. ...I just broke the promise to myself not to reply to that kind of stuff. But I guess I just needed to make a point.

Demigod: Welcome - I agree with your post. It is demoralizing indeed... but only because the true artists that made this place so great are no longer posting (or doing so very little; Loki, Micke, Joachim, Vebjorn, etc.), anyway, I really don't want to get into it anymore. I've spoken too much already.
Freddio: This place seeming to be turning into a common place where people can come in and post anything they like that can be loosely be called digital and art... Dhabih built this forum and called it "Digital Art Forum"... he probably didn't know people were going to jump from all over and post anything fitting under this description. |

well, I'm not new here and I agree very much with demigodfromdisney. Lately I've hardly seen anything else than shit-throwing, and I find about 90% of all threads to be mumbo jumbo crap (that's how I feel though)....It's almost so that I see no difference in posting my work in the Digitalart forum or the random musing section. And, personally I'm very close to just kiss this whole place goodbye, ...I'll give it one more chance after the new year...I'm sad about that, because it has been different and very constructive. And, I know others that has the same feelings.

I think there is too much talk about who's been here the longest and who has'nt instead of art.
If you've been here longer than somebody else it does'nt mean shit. If been here longer does not automatically make you a better artist and it does'nt make someone an authority. Seems like some people think that. This is a forum about art for crying out loud! I've seen a lot of new talented people here joining in that's more talented and mature than most others. I'm just sick and tired of this "all newbies bow before the veterans bullshit" I'm feeling very much like Chapel at the moment. Just fed up.

Our attitude is absolutely vital for this forum : 99% of the unemployed people here expects to work as a designer/artist in the future so they better get used to the BADFH* as a constant presence.

I think this forum is great and I think there is no where else on the net with such a congregation of talented artists but I agree there are alot of immature idiots here that ruin atmosphere of this forum.
I am not talking about whether they are newbies or oldtimers because the word idiot applies to some newbies and some oldtimers. I am talking about people that just post because they have no life and start stupid threads that should go into random musings. I see many people posting their first work and asking for crits and/or help on the progression of the work and the only replies they get are some smart ass rude response that has nothing to do with the image or art in general. The only time these people will crit or praise someone is when it is one of the big guns that posts.
No wonder they are assholes.
They got shit smeared all over their mouths and noses. I think it's an insecuruty issue as to why they have such a pompous elitist attitude half the time too. You people know who you are and if you dont then you got your head in the sand.

Great. If the good and mature artists leave, this IS a shitty place to stay. Come on, let's get these forums back into shape, dhab...let some good moderators (e.g. micke, joachim, fred, feng, vebjorn, etc, if they cared/had the time) make this a useful and friendly place again.
My opinion. |

Due to me having a 56k and a huge bill i didn't read all the posts. but here is my oppinion.
Most people just post really nice or i don't like it.
I think if people post they should post more specifically like what they don't like and why... Also tell a person if something is wrong with a picture, it might be inspiring to think you are doing a good job but it will really be aggravating when you try to get a job or something with the art. |

Faustgfxqj, answer me this at least. WHY.
WHY do fill our once majestic forum with your verbal dung? Why do you insist on forcing your teenage angst on those who just DON't CARE. W H Y do you not just go somewhere where you are apreciated and stop bothering the serious artists who are TRYING to become better at what they love.
IF you can provide a GOOd reason WHY you're doing this, I'll be impressed.

isric, just to piss you off.
that's good enough of a reason. if you don't like it, you can just as well fuck off.
"well then this is a digital art forum why do you never post anything?"
well duh, i do so much graphics work here at 'click i don't both want or have the energy to draw or whatever anything else.
why do i piss people off? 'cause they've done nothing else to me than piss me off.
